I will be working at two business casual law firms this summer. Currently, all I have is a backpack and a beat up messenger bag with my law school's name on it. As such, I need something to carry my belongings (papers, perhaps a laptop) to and from work. I don't want to spend more than I have to, but would rather pay a little more for something a bit nicer if it would be more durable.

I am thinking leather, but canvas could work. It has to be flexible enough for me to carry when wearing a suit as well as when wearing slacks and a shirt. I wear black shoes about 50% of the time, if that matters.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

Custom hide seems to have some good backs made in the good old us&a.

I'd also try doing a search; I think I've taken part in probably 15 bag discussions just in the past coupla months and there are TONS of good ones out there. On several of those threads we have lots of pictures, too. There are also a few good ones in SW&D. If I can find them, I'll post some links.

I'd really appreciate that. I have read most of the threads, but couldn't find one to deal with my specific situation. If you were to get one bag, would it be black or brown? Is it a disaster to wear a brown bag while wearing black shoes? It would be great if I could find a nice burgundy bag.

Also, could you be a little more specific? Do you mean like a briefcase, tote, messenger? Do you want top handles, a shoulder strap? What will you be carrying in it (books, laptop, etc.?) Here are a few threads: http://www.styleforum.net/showthread...highlight=tote http://www.styleforum.net/showthread...highlight=tote

Sorry for not being clear enough. I know that sometimes I will be carrying a laptop, but usually just papers and books. A shoulder strap that is removable is probably ideal.

Honestly, the messenger bag is fine. But if you want something nicer looking, take a look at a Filson canvas briefcase.

+1. I've convinced some of my colleagues and family members to go this route.

Here is a link to a nice Brief on the 'bay. It's not mine, but I have purchased from this seller a few times and his items are legit and he has good service (at least in our transactions). As well, I think he's had this one for a while, so you may be able to contact him directly and make a better deal. http://cgi.ebay.com/New-1-325-CANALI...3A1|240%3A1318

Yeah, I used to have that exact same model; it's a really great bag and, at that price, a very good bargain.

I was just about to recommend it. For $140 you can't beat the Original Briefcase.
