Hello Gents,

I am going to have my wedding soon. I know most people in my region don't follow traditional styling in my region but I really don't want to look odd on that day. It is an afternoon event and originally I want to go for formal or semi-formal. However, I don't like the idea of renting the clothing and I would rather add formality to my suit with the accessories, which is comparably less formal than a morning suit of course. Here's what I am going to wear:

  1. Navy blue jacket and trousers with subtle Prince of Wales plaid pattern, single-breasted
  2. Grey waistcoat
  3. White winged collar shirt with french cuffs
  4. Pocket Square (Colour TBC)
  5. Brown Leather shoes
According to the above, what neckwear do you recommend? I would love to go for something more formal and special but I don't want to wear something that is inappropriate. I think the safest choice would be a bowtie or necktie but I am also thinking of ascot or ruche tie. May I have your suggestions, please? Thanks.

The best is to with normal necktie. Wing collar shirt does only really work with white tie outfits. Change it to a nice spread collar shirt in white with double cuffs. If you like to make the outfit more formal wear a pair of nicely polished black oxford shoes. To make it more special wear a boutunniere, flower on the lapels. Find a nice texture (garza grossa grenadine tie )in silver . Altough it's a "normal" tie it is quite special, celebratory given the weave and sheen of the fabric. Hope this helps.

Don’t mix a wing collar with a business suit, they don’t go together—at least not in this century or the last. While I generally prefer brown shoes with a navy suit, that’s a bit too sprezzy and Continental for a wedding; go with black shoes. A bow tie is compatible with a business suit so long as it is not black or white; if you really want to go with the bow, look for one in navy with white polka dots such as the type favored by Winston Churchill.

1. Plain navy would be even better.
2. Great idea.
3. No wing collar shirt please. Normal, spread collar would be much better.
4. White PS.
5. Black would be much better and more formal for a wedding.
6. Traditional wedding tie.

Hello Gents, thank you so much for your reply. There are all very useful! I am going to get the Churchill bow style as well! It is also great to know that one of you think using a grey waistcoat is a great idea. I thought of it for a long time. :)
