Surprisingly little love for black ties with non-black shoes over in the "Ask a question..." threak; coming out in favor of black knits with brown shoes feels a little taking the pro position in a debate about gravity.

I'm prefer black ties with black shoes.

People who like shantung seem to like it as much as they always have. But I'm surprised super fancy shantung grenadines never caught in that much. Surprised, but not disappointed.

Another one for the black tie + black shoes. Not always though. It is just that black tie is often worn with white shirt and suits for an austere look.

I have been known to sport a black tie, white shirt and tan/brown suit and brown shoes and also a black tie and brown tweed OJ or grey herringbone OJ with brown shoes.

I was skeptical about the black tie, brown shoes combo...until I tried it. I admit though, it still feels a little funny to me.

I wear black knits with brown shoes quite often. If the tie is less casual than a knit, I'll opt for black shoes.

    ^ seems reasonable.

If I got a black knit, I'd wear with blue shirt, navy jacket, gray trou, and black shoes. I am sure there are other ways I could integrate it into my wardrobe, but I think that would be my standard (perhaps exclusive) application of the black knit. I'd use different blue jackets and different gray pants of course. Same shoes though (only one pair of black shoes)

Black and the right brown can be such a superb combination.

Black knit and burg shoes are fine, but of course you already knew my opinion. Not to re-tread, but just to have some additional examples here for discussion:

Black with burgundy would be my choice outside of black with black. I think all of %'s fits would have been better served with black shoes. I think Henry Carter's works because of the brown jacket.

@Henry Carter , beat me to it. A few of those black knits pasted seem navy (dark navy ) to me. But the salient point still stands.

It has been brought up before but in place of black, i prefer charcoal knit. In artificial light, it is essentially black.

I am a fan of a black knit, don't get me wrong. Just I prefer it with black shoes and I'm fortunately not in the position that I have one or the other I have to choose.

Even if they're not actually black, I think black tie/brown jacket is a great combination and definitely one where brown shoes feel most natural.

If you're going to keep undercutting my points with your facts, just go back to selling your beautiful ties.
