Agents usually give their clients loans in anticipation of fat contracts. Also, several of these guys already have endorsement deals. That's how they pay for their suits and their gaudy watches.

Aside from the occassional "what the?.." moment, I applaud these young men and the tradition / expectation of them dressing up for the big league. I like that the coaches are also well dressed. It's refreshing to see in comparison to the other sports.

I hate JJ Redick, but I thought he looked pretty good in his custom Zegna suit.

My favorite from recent years is Drew Gooden's buttonless suit in 2002:

I actually don't like that look. It looks odd to me; almost as if he's wearing a bag. Plus the sleeves are too long. But A+ for originality that's for sure.

Clothes on tall people just look odd to eyes that aren't use to seeing them. Think of tall historical people like George Washington and Abe Lincoln--their clothes don't to fit properly either. I think it's artfact of us short people's (under 6'5&quot low alitude.

I'm sure they also look strange because the tie/shirts are proportionally smaller than what we're used to seeing... unless they have collars that are about 6 inches long and quintuple-windsor knots in their ties (if that were even possible).

i'd cut them some slack. this is probably the first time they're made to wear suits. and in all probability these are otr suits bought for this occassion only. of course, the dr. evil suit is unforgiveable.

I agree about cutting them slack, but these definitely aren't OTR. I don't think even a big and tall store could fit a seven foot man. Plus, much is made on ESPN about these guys visiting their tailors. I know they've mentioned at least one tailor who fits a fair number of draftees. He also dresses Stuart Scott, the ESPN analyst, which is frankly not something I would advertise.

Plus, you have to remember that the NBA now has a dress code. These guys are required to dress up arriving at and leaving games as well as during press conferences or they will be fined.
