i remember the year Beasley was drafted. the Heat were really, really bad, and it was doubly disappointing because they had won the championship recently, had a disastrous roster reset and a 15-win season, Pat Riley had just quit the bench, but now we were in a position to grab Derrick Rose or Beasley - the two consensus best picks, and there was a lot of debate on who was better, but both were supposed to be locks in the league

Beasley had amazing, unstoppable offensive numbers in college, but once Miami drew the second pick, there was a palpable reluctance to take Beasley. there were constant rumors that Riley was trying to trade up to #1, but reports had it that it was going to take the #2 plus Wade, and even that might not get it done. bottom line, they ended up drafting him because they seemed to be expected to, but they clearly didn't want to.

i didn't get it at the time, i mean no one should be surprised at how Rose turned out, but it was clear really quickly how bad Beasley was. he had (and still has) all the tools to be one of the five best SF's in the league, but the only top 5 list he's ever making is the weed expenditure one

Somebody stole your thunder by posing that in another thread a day or so before your post. I think folks have pretty much shot their commenting wad.

It was pretty sweet. Boys can ball, especially playing with ties on

That 2008 draft was so deep too. Could turn out to be one of the best

Hehe...I think it's no accident that Beasley's only played for sucky teams though. And I almost forgot that his first pot bust in the league occurred in rookie orientation...lmao

more of the scuttlebutt down here was, if Beasley's overrated then Riles should have the balls to pass on him, shock the world and take OJ Mayo instead. Which still would have been a mediocre decision in hindsight, the true win would have been to grab Westbrook or Love. But absolutely no one would have done that.

All this would have been a lot more painful had the Heat not nabbed Lebron and Bosh as FA, of course

So Jordan can still dunk at 50 (a recent ESPN story). Obviously, this is not a big deal - Dr. J recently dunked at 62. But is it even a little deal. Vertical leap seems like the kind of thing that doesn't really fall off much until your body really starts to go. It's not like a recovery, reflex jump to block a shot. What do you think.
