NBA 2016-2017 Season Thread

I thought at first that it could be a blessing in disguise, I mean no harm to any players at all but Rondo going down could have been a sign that the Celtics and start new but them playing better (Doc proving me wrong on how I see him as a coach) might just mean a move to further surround Pierce and KG with better players and try to make a final run will be the next move instead of blowing it all up. They do not have much to offer though unless they move one of those two but Ainge already said Pierce isn't on the market.

i've been proven wrong before but the Celtics playing well is unsustainable imo. Rondo creates shots for a whole team where only Pierce can reliably create a shot for himself, and was the only reason the Celtics hung tough with Miami in the playoffs. what should be scary for Celtics fans with this 5-0 record is not so much that they end up with a low draft pick (again, the draft sucks this year and they won't suck so hard that they get a top 3 pick anyway)...but this crazy talk that they might be a pretty good team without him. the worst is that they start believing this **** and let him walk or trade him.

Rondo might be my least favorite player in the league but to say the Celtics are a better/good team without him is just insane.

I have seen the Celts play 1 game w/o Rondo (against the Clips) so I am not sure if they are indeed better (they did beat a CP3-less Clips where VDN is the lone coach) but the 5-win in a row is the best for the season for them. The best they could hope for is probably 8th or even 7th place (they are in the East) and it did look much more bleek with Rondo there this year and it seems like they aren't going to throw the towel anytime soon so we shall see how they move forward. Green really needs to step it up and be that solid and consistent 3rd option, this is his time and opportunity to shine.

Lakers are probably the most popular team in the league overall, they're the big story of the year in the sports media, and we have a reasonably proportional number of Lakers fans who post here. Other than the "Lakers baby Lakers" idiocy (which has been....slow this year), most of the posts about them are reasonable and as substantive as anything else from other fans. Just stfu and skip the Lakers posts if it bothers you.

I like Rondo alot, but I know most dont. I agree its not sustainable, Rondo played a lot of minutes and those are minutes that are going to wear down the back court over time. Also, that back court isn't exactly a worldbeater and its putting pressure on Pierce and Garnett to produce. With Sullinger our and Jeff Green's 12 point glass ceiling it can't last.

Huge mistake to move him, but you better believe Rondo notices the run.

Per above, don't expect much more production, I don't think its in him. Guy's a pretty good player too. Would still prefer him over Brandon Bass in a heartbeat.

Holy ****! They finally got James White in the Slam Dunk Contest!

Jeremy Evans, Gerald Green, Kenneth Faried, Eric Bledsoe, Terrence Ross and James White will take part in the Sprite Slam Dunk Contest on February 16.

Not sure about Faried but Eric Bledsoe got hops for days, Gerald Green was good in his last Slam Dunk contest despite his missing fingers and James White is just insane, dude did a between the legs dunk from the free throw line. I wonder if he can still do it.

Lebron said in December that he won't join the contest anymore, he said he is too old for it.

James told FOX Sports Florida that, while he has thought seriously several times about entering the dunk contest during All-Star Weekend in his nine previous seasons, it never will occur.

"No," said James, who turns 28 on Dec. 30. "It's over with. I'm getting too old for that. ... There were times when I wanted to do it. But I came into All-Star Weekend a few times banged up and I didn't want to risk further injury."

Then again this is a guy who flip-flops all the time and if he decides to join, I'm sure they'll open up a spot for him. Don't hold your breathe though.

Sources tell ESPN's Marc Stein the Bulls and Raptors have had preliminary talks about a trade that would send Carlos Boozer to Toronto for Andrea Bargnani.

I know Boozer is no KG on defense but Barg will just give you olé defense all night long.
