good article on the would-have-been, CP3 to Lakers trade:

    http://www.nytimes.com/2011/12/09/s...join-lakers-as-part-of-3-team-deal.html?_r=2&

I personally was shaky on the details so I never understood why stern, the commissioner vetoed the trade. but of course, the hornets were owned by the league at the time and as owner, stern rejected it soon after 3 teams came to agreement. some speculate stern vetoed CP3 trade to maximize team price come sale time

in hindsight, the hornets would have received a lot of talent:

Lamar Odom from the Lakers, and Kevin Martin, Luis Scola and Goran Dragic from the Rockets

Pau would have gone to the Rockets

Pacers sign Bynum, presumably to keep him away from the bigless Heat.

Oden vs Bynum showdown in the eastern conference finals. Last man standing wins

Heat claimed they had absolutely no interest in him, which kinda makes sense, given Oden. Backup center is the Pacers biggest weakness (and backup 4). While Hibbert is a better defender than Bynum, a healthy Bynum is twice the offensive player Hibbert is. Hibbert is also very "lumbering", if a team turns a series against them into a race up and down the court, or has a big that Hibbert has to come out to the 3 point line to defend, Bynum would become a better option in that scenario. Or at least an option that can play 20 minutes in the game without downgrading the lineup.

Pacers are downright scary now. Bynum just needs to protect the rim, nothing else, for the 10 minutes Hibbert sits, and the signing is gold

Bit of Tony Parker there, he has that Rondo eurostep drive.

Maybe. But that guy has the ability to be a cancer in a locker room.

I think what most are saying that the locker room is a close knit of a family enough to withstand whatever is wrong with Bynum. David West and Stephenson will likely smack him around if he fucks up too much.

Also, Clevelands locker rooms just seems like a huge mess right now and the GM is close to being fired because he just lets everything go and has no control, so maybe, just maybe not 100% of the fault is on Bynum? Maybe just 98%.

i'll just leave this here. Gasol's January: January splits for @paugasol: 20.8 ppg on 51% FG’s, 76.9% FT’s, 11.9 rpg, 3.9 apg, 1.7 bpg:fu:. And, of course, he's out the next three games.

when bynum was with the lakers his reputation was much more of being a flake than being a cancer. IE: he was an immature kid who would do stupid stuff. He wasn't someone who would deliberately sabotage his teammates (or sleep with their mothers).

Suns looking at getting Pau, time to move him but I am not sure getting Okafor is the best option for the Lakers. Both are expiring contracts though.

i can't really tell how many of these things are just rumors sportswriters float because they're bored, and how many are true. so far i think this is teh fourth or fifth rumor this year. they follow a fairly predictable pattern -- they're rumored on the internet, then get written up as a near-certainty, then you get headlines like this one from this morning "Gasol trade would be complicated" (working from memory ... something like that).
one thing's for certain, though ... there's only one laker for life and it's not gasol.

That was a fun stuff block by Drummond on Oden. It's like Godzilla vs Mothra out there
