I think you underestimate how much help Nash could be. Right now Kobe is practically playing PG and he is exerting too much energy handling the ball, he admits it himself that he has never handled the ball so much in his career. With Nash, Kobe can more or less focus on scoring than actually facilitating.

Sometimes it's just the defense though, last nights game against Utah was like a lay-up drill at times, everyone was definitely hoping Dwight swats all the shots within the paint and it translate to terrible defense. Offense, they could barely set-up much. Really don't know what to say that hasn't already been said, they are just stinking it up and DAntoni seems so content in just waiting how Nash changes the team so we pretty just have to wait as well.

On the other hand, the Clips can be crazy good, 2 games in a row they didn't need the starters in the 4th because the bench pretty much destroyed the competition and that is still with a chubby Odom and no Billups and Hill. Bledsoe, Crawford, Barnes, Odom and Turiaf are just a solid b-team for them and the hustle and quick defense is great when all fo them are clicking. If they stay consistent, they can take this all the way to the finals, they are that good and deep.

And speaking of being good, even I didn't think Griffin could evolve and improve so quick. This guy is leaps and bounds above Dwight today. Dude is doing sweeping hooks, dream shake under the basket and spinning fadeaways to the back court. His range is improving too and once he starts hitting those 15-17 foot jumpshots with consistency, dude is just going to beast further. He is still sloppy at times but that will improve over time since he is actually trying different moves, if he can get to at least 70-75% ft% or higher, he'd be all set.

Lakers seem to be in a tough spot. Under D'Antoni's system, I don't think Howard and Gasol can coexist and I would not want to depend on Jamison being my big minutes forward. Actually, even under Jackson's Triangle system, I think you have one too many post players in Howard/Gasol, unless you want to bring one guy off the bench. Lakers might be better served by trading Gasol for some players that can strengthen the bench and a big man starter that can shoot threes. The league has gone to this small ball bullshit where teams are basically playing 4 guards and 1 big and I don't think the Lakers can win many games in the 100+ point area, with most teams being younger/quicker than them. Either play old school pound the ball inside until these small teams cry uncle or get someone that can stretch the floor at the forward position.

I'm actually surprised at the Lakers. Given the talent I figured they'd phone it in to make the Finals.

As all of you keep telling me, shows how much I know.

They are stuck with Pau this year, Nash said one of the reasons he went to LA is to play with Pau and that was a promise the Lakers had to make to get him to the team. Trading him now will just upset Nash, which isn't the best thing to do until they see how Nash plays with DAntoni.

agree with this. Nash isn't too far removed from his MVP and near-MVP seasons when he directed the most efficient, pretty offense I can remember since showtime. and his game isn't too susceptible to decline with age as long as he doesn't have a broken leg or something. however, he automatically makes the Lakers D significantly worse than it already is, so there is that little problem...

I think the Lakers defense is much better with Pau, for the most part they were getting stops with Pau, they just couldn't convert on offense because DAntoni pretty much shuffles it around and is still trying to find what works w/o Nash. Defense will always be a problem but with a healthy Pau, MWP and Dwight, they can be pretty solid defense out there, enough to pull out a win but we still have to wait and see.

there was a funny line from d'antoni in one of the press conferences when somebody asked whether nash coming back would help the defense: d'antoni said something like "rajah bell made the all-defense team because he had to cover his man and steve's, too."
i'm not ready to panic yet. when you watch the games, you can see where the breakdowns are coming defensively (offense actually has been pretty good over the last week or so). it's just a matter of being a step slow on rotations, of thinking about where you're supposed to be rather than just reacting. look at the box score and the lakers actually beat OKC in three of the four quarters. Of course, they were totally blown out in the second, but that was mainly a matter of darius morris not getting back in transition on westbrook (and, of course, of westbrook shooting absolute lights out). that went from a close game to a stretch in about 3 minutes.

This. He's a liability on a team that is already struggling defensively, I don't see it.

BTW, this has become The Lakers Thread again. Lots of interesting stuff happening around the league. Lets talk about some other teams (other than the Knicks).

I try not to worry either but 21 games into the season with a losing record with uncertain return date on Pau and Nash does linger in the back of my mind. They'd have to go on a Spurs-like streak of 20+ wins in a row to get at least the homecourt in the West, which they might really need come playoff time.

Well maybe if you stop putting your opinion or taking a jab at the Lakers every time they lose then maybe the topic wouldn't move towards the Lakers?

Seriously everyone hates that this becomes a "Laker thread" but when they lose people always comes out just to instigate a discussion. Their loses are actually interesting though because they were a big favorite this season with Nash and Howard so there is a lot to say about the team, winning or losing.

I post about all kids of stuff, Lakers included. Just recently I mentioned Larry Sanders, Zach Randolph, commented on the Wizards, Golden State, more. Maybe this wont be the Lakers Thread all the time if you/others could stay the compulsion to defend the team every time someone comments about them. Some punches should land, you know considering they are sucking, so let them be true.

Anyway, how about those Thunder? Seem like a better team than last season already. Nobody is talking about missing Harden.
