Barnes is pretty good, but he's not fantasy productive enough yet, just dropped him off my fantasy squad. He's athletic and solid on D. That dunk on Pekovic looked like he climbed a ladder.

if they were running seven seconds and a cloud of dust, i'd agree. but that's not at all what they're doing. to say they are up-tempo is to say they're pushing the ball more than they did under brown, which is to say they are not walking the ball up the court. i'd say they're about 1/3 of the way between brown and phx. they are operating almost exclusively out of half-court sets, it's just that they're getting into them quicker and executing out of them more quickly (i.e., howard doesn't stand and pound while deciding which way to turn). i'd say if everything goes well, this is going to be a 105-107 ppg team, not a 115-120. when they have really high-scoring nights its because somebody got unconscious (or several somebodys, like game before last).

for some reason i have not been able to catch any games, other than the Heat games on the local channel. i know national coverage picks up after football ends, but i have literally been able to see zero games other than the Heat

YMCA run and gun is not the way to win with two of the top 10 players in the game on your team. Feeding Howard in the post, putting pressure on the defense, and clear offense is how to win.

Though I'm no Lakers fan, I believe they'll be a strong playoff contender. No matter how good your players are, it takes about a year to figure out how to mesh really well with one another, so I'm not surprised that they're having some trouble adjusting this early in the season. I predict a deep playoff run for the Lakers this year and a championship next year. I agree that they should build their game around pick-and-rolls in a half court set and maybe they will, once Nash returns.

I'm not surprised that Memphis is doing well, but I am surprised by how well they're doing. I'm absolutely shocked by the Knicks' record. I haven't seen them play, but has Melo fiinally grown up and learned how to play team basketball?

Ed, I think Lin and Harden should reverse their roles in Houston. Let Lin be the playmaker, passing to his teammates, including Harden. Harden has such a diverse skill set, he can succeed in any role, whereas Lin is more limited.

The Knicks win/look great when Melo scores 20ish and they get a ton of assists/low turnovers. They lose/look bad when Melo scores 30ish and offensively its all one on one. Not that different than last year but for the fact that they are a much. much improved defensive team (Melo has his moments defensively but he still gets beat and sometime does not get back). Their biggest issue (aside from age) is that they are an awful rebounding team and shoot a lot of threes. When you don't rebound and the 3's stop going in, your defense has to be airtight for you to win games.

I'm not really sure what is going on in Houston, Harden is going to be your top scorer and shot taker and you have a lot of slashers on that team (and no real interior offense), why make him the playmaker, too much work for him. Have the other guys set screens to get him free and when he is not free or they double him, you have guys like Parsons, Patterson, Lin etc to get to the basket or take a jumper.

sitting him with a questionably fake injury is nba code for an imminent trade. I have a feeling it's going to be for either Rudy gay or Derrick Williams + picks /assests

josh smith is a perfect perfect fit player wise. but he's too much of a headcase and dangerous in combination with Howard's and artest.

Why would Memphis trade Rudy Gay when they are the #1 team in the NBA right now?

I doubt Pau is on the trading block, everyone always talks about trading him every season and the rumors gets crazier as the trade deadline approaches. I just don't see him being gone becoming chances are the Lakers will ask an absurd amount of talent for him.

the thing about pau is, not only is he a top-5 strong forward, he's also one of the better backup centers in the league. if i remember correctly, one of the nerd blogs even determined last week or so that the lakers performed better with him at center than they did with howard, or with the combination of him and howard. not sure i'm buying that, but ... regardless, if the lakers traded pau, the backup center would be robert sacre.

Pau isn't getting traded any time soon. You guys have to remember that bar the Mike Brown firing, the Lakers are usually very stubborn and patient when it comes to these things. It's how they were able to hold on to Kobe some years ago and get Howard this year.

Trading Pau without ever even seeing how he would fare with Nash is not only premature, it's ridiculous.

That being said, two words should scare all Laker fans: Jimmy Buss.
