Happens more often than not. At least Joe Johnson is better than Lewis or Arenas, JJ actually saw some floor time unlike those other two.

Yeah, I was astonished to read that before last season, Lewis was the second-highest paid player in the NBA, behind Kobe (and that the Orlando Magic had taken on Gilbert Arenas' contract).

Is there no way the Nets can work the salaries to get Dwight Howard? They have enough players to make the trade, if Orlando would take Brook Lopez and perhaps Gerald Wallace and/or draft picks.

They'd still have to resign DWill and dude is looking for a max contract too. That will be 3 max contract players in one team, more expensive than the Heats but less talented. I really do not get the Joe Johnson trade unless he is part of a pending trade for Dwight or they have completely given up on getting him.

wow, and now the Hawks send Marvin Williams away too to the Jazz for Devin Harris...i'm impressed with Danny Ferry - in one week he gets rid of two albatross contracts and positions himself nicely for the future. the Hawks were built for first-round playoff exits for the long-term future, so why not swing for the fences? if he can get a true star to play with Teague, Smith and Horford (and now Devin Harris), they would be very interesting indeed

I was just coming to post this. He's a lock for executive of the year already. Apparently considering going after Dwight as well.

Johnson is good for the Nets this year; having a seemingly star-studded team will help them kick off the new arena in Brooklyn. His contract will hurt in the future, but Prokhorov can have him murdered before that becomes an issue.

Yeah the Hawks were stuck at the time with Johnson, they didn't really have a choice. Oh well. What we've learned with this and the Arenas deal is that the two most untradeable contracts, can in fact be traded.

Also--Chris Broussard is such a rumormonger. Has he ever been correct after citing unnamed "league sources"? No, is the answer, btw.

Chris Broussard did in fact report accurately and firstly about Lebron deciding to team up with bosh and wade in Miami.

So now the Nets are talking Lopez, Humphries, Brooks, and 3 1st round picks for Dwight.

ya, because anytime you can trade a future hall of famer for three non-allstars and a bunch of mid-round draft picks and still have no future salary cap relief you have to do it.

either way, this is a lose-lose situation for orlando.

orlando should just announce to the public what they specifically want for a one year rental. its a way to gain leverage against howard by raising the stakes for the one/two teams he supposedly will only sign an extension for.

the common joke is to trade howard to the bobcats/raptors/shitty team to teach him a lesson. but what if the Magic just announced to the cellar dwelling teams what they specifically wanted (offers that are actually almost reasonable) for a one year rental publicly through the media? It might actually force one of the shitty teams to take the gamble for a year.

Nah, that 3 first round picks are better than you think. That is 3 first round picks. Brooks looked like a legit wingman to good 3rd option on any team. If Lopez gets healthy (BIG IF) he is a potential All-Star center that can't rebound and Hunphries is a good hustle guy. I think that is as good as anything Orlando could get considering Howard said he would only sign an extension or renew his contract with one team (he didn't say which team but it is likely the Nets).

Also, DWill said he would sign a 5-year, $100m contract and the only way I see him even considering signing is that Howard is coming in the Nets because JJ certainly isn't a good selling factor in anyones eye. I think Crash also just signed an extension so if they can get Dwight and keep DWill, that is a good, solid starting 5. Dwight, DWill, JJ and Crash plus a decent wingman is a good starting team.

    one year rental wild scenario:

    celtics:

    paul piece
    A. Bradley
    Jared Sullinger
maybe 1 or two future first round picks

    Orlando:
    Dwight Howard

it works in the trade machine.
