BTW, for all the changes that were made, they are once again falling into the "give Melo the ball and get out of his way" offensive scheme.

dopey, you really crack me up!! (What's Isaiah doing these days, coaching girls b-ball and "paying" his leading scorer 50 million packs of tic-tacs?)

dopey, you crack me up! Enjoy it while it lasts.

IME, D'Antoni is the wrong coach for this Lakers team. Given their age and the talented big men, this team would be better running pick-and-rolls in a half-court offense than running-and-gunning. Time will tell. D'Antoni is certainly an improvement over Brown.

Running pick-and-rolls in the half court is pretty much D'Antoni's entire offensive scheme when they're not in transition.

EDIT: and this old-ass team will not be in transition much.

in Phoenix it was about transition and pick and rolls, but they also carefully selected personnel - Nash of course was the key but they needed everyone on that team to be a great shooter, and then it was all about Nash creating the first open shot (which you were supposed to take whoever you are) . the only really good shooters for their position on the current Lakers roster are Nash himself and Pau Gasol

I think we will see more of Jamison & Meeks in D'Antonis system, those two are pretty legit shooters, 35% behind the arc and 40% overall in their careers. I think the shooting inconsistency will be on MWP, dude would just shoot from behind the arc w/o thinking.

No. he still has a way to go before he can be mentioned in the same sentence as The Colossal Jackass Known As James Dolan.

For reasons already mentioned here and sportcenter, etc., his choice of D'Antoni is mind boggling

    Damn. Jeremy Lin.

End of 1st quarter v Miami, exactly 1 TO and 1 PF. 0's on all other stats. Star potential there.

Oh shit. Lin has an assist now, midway thru the 2nd. We might have a triple double here.

i forgot about Meeks, he is a good shooter. not too sold on Antawn though - he just looks like he's done.

i have a feeling that D'Antoni will run a lot more pick and roll/pick and pop to keep Dwight happy and use his (and Pau's strengths), instead of the Suns' spacing strategy. it's not a bad idea, but i guess they need to sell Kobe on the old Joe Johnson role as spot up shooter. Kobe's a smart guy, he'll realize that he'll get more easy buckets and prolong a productive career

meeks has been on a shooting spree last couple games. note: i did not say a SCORING spree. 4 of 14 in the last 2 games; 1 of 9 from the three.

Not really fair since Brown 4 minutes a game and all of a sudden gotten about 15. And he is working freeing up the lane since he is a threat from behind the arc, him and Jamison doesn't need to score 15-20 points, just the occasional 3 to spread out the defenders.

true. and i think there must be something going on when normally fairly reliable three-point shooters (meeks, jamison, blake) suddenly lose their touch when plugged into this lineup. darius morris has impressed me the last couple games. and will probably start tonight. jeez.

although I hate the lakers I want DiAntoni to be uber successful as the new lakers coach... just to further provide definitive proof that Carmelo is a dick for forcing him out.

Kobe may be a super ball hog but he's actually not that bad of a ball stopper especially in transition where kobe will score quickly when the defense gives him the opportunity and/or even make a quick pass to a open/slashing teammate for an easier score.

Every time melo would get it in semi-transition then do his: OK I'M GOING TO HOLD THE BALL... AND NOW LOOK DOWN FOR 3 SECONDS, OK NOW I'LL LOOK UP FOR 2 MORE SECONDS. NOW I WILL BEGIN THE PROCESS OF DRIBBLING AND DECIDING TO TAKE A CONTESTED 21FOOT SHOT, OR MAYBE DRIVE INTO A DOUBLE TEAM AND TAKE A CONTESTED 15FOOT SHOT.

you could see DiAntoni dying a little inside every time it happened... I guess he finally just ended up quitting. That says a lot... for a coach to just quit on his superstar.

melo's playing great this year, but is still doing the ball stopping... Its just that he's a little more invested in defense, and the whole team is buying into the defense anchored by tyson chandler. also Felton is pissed about being ragged on so badly for being fat and slow he's finally trying.
