Well, he gets paid $4mil a year, which is what the Lakers are paying Blake right now, so they could have probably matched it.

I don't remember if they just let him go or were outbid, but I'd imagine they could have kept him if they really wanted.

Some in LA miss the triangle offense.

    Trade rumors heating up.

Lakers trying to get Rondo and if that doesn't fall through, they're the front runner for Sessions.

Clippers trying to get Hinrich to solve the SG position? That makes no sense since Hinrich is more of a PG to me, they might be better off trying to get Crawford but I don't think they can offer much for a trade.

well the Laker roster was tailor made for the triangle over the course of more than a decade. Pau is perfect as the big man who can also shoot and move the ball...they stocked up on athletic, versatile swings, and understandably neglected picking up or developing any pure point guards.

so now that they are running the Brownie offense, point is suddenly a glaring deficiency and they need to get rid of all these swing men who get in Kobe's way. and Lamar is just a tremendous, tremendous loss...he could have played the Lebron role if Brown were to bring in some of his old Cavs sets

kobe shoots too much because mike brown is a terrible coach. the lakers have a lot of stagnant offense causing them to rely on kobe and pau to put up difficult contested shots.

I got to disagree. The Lakers lack or a real PGhas been evident for years now, it is nothing new. Laker fans love Fisher but we have been campaigning on getting rid of him ( or at least move him to the bench) and get a better PG.

yeah, but my point is, the Lakers haven't needed Fisher (or anyone) to be a "real" PG in forever. he just needed to knock down threes and be a pain in the ass for the opposing PG.

but two things happened - their new offense now suddenly needs a more traditional PG, plus he lost a step

I told you guys 20 pages ago Lin would get figured out. He looked awful against the Mavs.

Melo has also screwed up flow. They are better without him. I dont know who that ass sucking announcer was during that game but I laughed out loud when he said "all those people that think Melo is hurting this team are just crazy".

Great games across the league a few weeks ago but players are looking tired.

All you Lakers trade talker are in dreamland. Rondo? Get out of here.

Who would Boston even want in exchange for Rondo? Unless they pulled a 3 team trade with the Lakers sending Pau elsewhere and Boston getting that team's player(s) back.

I want josh smith on the celtics badly...

this one works in the espn nba trade machine:

Lakers get: Rajon Rondo and Kirk Hinrich
    Hawks get: Pau Gasol
    Celtics get: Josh Smith

the lakers take on more salary but can use the trade exemption.... they also finally get a PG who can help kobe from taking so many difficult shots and another white guy.

the hawks get pau gasol who can team up with horford to twin tower the east when he comes back next year. plus they just improved the team.

the celtics get josh smith + paul pierce and 30million in cap space next year. they can dream about signing two near max contract players next year... (theoretically Deron williams and Dwight howard..) josh smith, d-will, d12, pierce, is making celtics fans and danny ainge cream in their pants right now...

I can't imagine why Atl would want Pau unless they plan to flip him to someone like Houston.

atlanta is one of those teams that uses advanced metrics/analysis to create offensive/defensive schemes and lineups. since they can't attract top talent they had to over pay for joe johnson.

what hasn't been totally exposed is that Pau is a advanced stat geek wet dream. the houston GM wanted him for that reason - basically Pau is considered underpaid (even at 18million/year) for what he produces on court (like baseball win-shares).

so the only way atlanta can lock down blue chip talent is to acquire through trade. joe johnson, al horford, pau gasol is a great nucleus and sadly as good as atlanta is going to get without being able to sign marquee free agents.

josh smith has only two years left on his contract also... he'll be traded or just let go this or next year anyway - because he'll be due for a raise from 12million (ATL is over the salary cap right now).
