yow. lakers looked like a bunch of guys who'd just been introduced for hte first time. (not far off, actually). so, who gets the exemption cut: ron-ron or luke?
clips were a LOT of fun, on the other hand.

Well, Metta's contract is one year longer, if my memory is correct. So I would assume you'd want him cut over Luke, althrough Luke is pretty useless for the contract he got.

Kobe looked to be in better shape than last season though.

Yeah but the team is not any better, one year older and so on. More than anything they jsut looked so unLakerish, getting shafted on the big trades and not picking up any decent pieces, although I do like the McRoberts pick up.

So, just a thought, but do you think the LAkers could trade Kobe, and what could they get for him? I know it's blasphemy but if they could retool and get younger. . . maybe somebody would overpay. Kobe for Dwight? Dwight and a #1? Kobe for D-Will and four # 1's? How far could they take it?

yeah, that one jump shot that he got the and-one, he was really up there. still didn't play much D, and it was interesting that brown called him out on it afterward. brown does seem to be a lot more interventionist as a coach than Jackson was (well, most anyone would be). he called that quick time after those back-to-back paul layups. did it again in the second half.

iirc, kobe has a no-trade clause in his contract.

They could trade Kobe to a small market team for some pieces but no one in their right mind would trade any young superstars for him, Kobe is practically 40 in basketball years, dude's had so many game since he was 18. He is good shape but his prime has passed. He is still good but his on a downfall so no smart GM would trade for him for Dwight, DRose, DWill, etc...

Kobe will be a Laker forever and doesn't he have the right to veto any trades involving him? Isn't that why he had so much power when the talks of him going to the Bulls was shut down, he vetoes it when he found out Deng was included in the trade but he wanted him to stay.

I think the Lakers has more front court depth now with McRoberts and Murphy. They still need a PG though but they put Artest as the 6th man in hopes that he'd score more so we'll see how that experiment works. If Ebanks turns even to a fraction of what Ariza could do, he might be able to help as well.

He's a hustle player and I got a bit of a sigh of relief when I saw Murphy sink a 3-pointer. With him and Kapono on the court, it can open things up for Kobe to drive. Again, just need a solid PG that can run around distributing the ball. It isn't about the triangle anymore so Fisher is more useless than ever these days.

    McRoberts...good.

    The rest...bad :(

I hope all this team needs is some time to gel.
