i agree, which only makes stern's decision more puzzling. the only thing i can figure out is that owners think different than coaches. they're thinking marquee players that can put butts in the seats, rather than putting together a cohesive squad that can win games.

While I don't think the trade should've been vetoed, Paul's gotta play. These guys are pros making millions of dollars signed to a contract.

Yes, I was a bit surprised that Paul showed up in camp, but good on him. He's a pro.

Stern is just blowing it big-time, now back-tracking to cover his ass.

"Hey, Lamar: I love you man, but GROW THE EFF UP!!!"

I think the trade was nixed because he cannot afford to lose the owners. Stern probably wants the deal but he would get roasted for it. He is willing to take the media heat but the heat from the owners is a much different animal. He needs their support.

If you REALLY loved him you'd send him a case of Skittles.

Meh, trade will go through. THe Lakers will get Paul and Okafur. Which is actually better for them. Gives some more front court depth and/or gives them a new starter to replace Pau.
expect D12 later this week. Then. . . its the LAke Show killing em all. Will be sweet to see Mike Brown beat LeBitch in the finals.

Battier is the type of player every team needs, a tough defender who hustles and plays smart, so the Heat just got stronger. They really need a center, though. Erick Dampier really isn't the answer.

My problem with the trade from the perspective of NO is that I don't see a lot more upside to any of the three players they got and it's always easier to find role players than stars. Though Odom is still a good player, he never blossomed into the player his talent would suggest and his career has started on the downside. Martin's game won't improve much, though Dragic might have some room to improve.

Do you think the D12 to New Jersey rumors are just rumors to make LA get moving? I don't see how D12 ends up in LA via trade, if they have to part with Odom and Gasol to get CP3. I'd take Brook Lopez and 2 first-rounders from NJ for Howard before I'd take Bynum plus almost anything else.

Cuban offered a 2 year contract, wants to keep cap space for next year's class of FA. I would've just tried to repeat.

It's not like quality centers grow on trees. Just a terrible move IMO.

Naw. . Chandler over-performed and likely last year was the best he'll be. Mavs get a huge trade exemption and with the new deal in place, cap space is at a premium. Cut bait and make a run for the next great players. He can try for D12, or next year for D-Will.

As for the Nets and D12, I think they offered Nene a mint already so he's likely to sign there. Not sure whats going to happen with the tampering charges. . . but it might be in the best interest of the Nets to just walk on... plus they get to keep their picks and Lopez and get Nene, which might work out better in the long run. Next years draft is said to be loaded so I'm not sure teams want to just toss away draft picks like they're nothing.
They can Play Nene and Lopez in the front court, D-wll in the back, add some quality first rounders and maybe another free agent and they're looking good.

lost in all this is one of the best moves I've seen so far - Celtics closing in on signing David West while giving up none of their core. he's a great fit for that team...

+1. He would have been a great fit for the Lakers. I was hoping that would have happened, along with Battier, somehow.
