They can trade Mo, Bledso and or Billups, maybe make a run at Crawford.

Great deal for the Magic. 5 first round picks? Howard is almost 100% sure he will not stay with the Magic after this season. At least one of those picks will end up being a player on Howard's level.
I have no idea why the Magic didn't jump on that.

Even though they signed Jordan to a big contract, can still do some sort of sign-n-trade with D12 before he actually hits FA market. Correct? In which case, pretty sure Jordan would be one of the players traded.

They can't trade Billups, amnesty rules. They can trade him on July 1st, which is when Billups contract expires.

And this sucks. This guys scoring will be missed.

Now how does one draft for fantasy?

I guess Odom and Griffin will be worth more. Chandler, Amare, Melo less.

    CP 3 a lot less.

    Kobe less Pau less.

Kobe more because w/o Jackson, he'll be the old Kobe chucking up the ball every time he gets it. Pau might play more minutes too.
CP3, much better. That is alley-oop/assist-ville right there. Plus he's actually happy so he'll likely play better.
Chandler might affect Amare's rebound but not much else.
    melo = same.

    Yup billups amnesty clause...

This tweet made me smile and feel bad for Gordon all at the same time:
    Retweeted by @mcten That's CP3's line! RT @TheofficialEG10: Wow

DA Jordon will also be the recipient of a lot of lobs from CP, he's had a few big dunks last season as well (could be similar to CP making Tyson Chandler-esque allyoops)

Lockout, trade demands for CP3 and D12... I wonder how the league will sell the season openers.

The silence out of Lakerland is deafening.

By not putting Howard as a top priority, they blew it. Going after CP3 (which last year Phil Jackson predicted would be a nightmare) got them nothing, confused the entire situation, made them acquiesce to Lamar's trade demand, and...now what???

Kobe is pissed, Mitch is saying they'll keep Bynum/Gasol and "go after big deals"...with what? For who? Nobody out there is worth it.
Their #1 and only priority should have been dumping Bynum and whowever for Howard, period. CP3 never should have been targeted.

    Welcom to Buss-land....:brick:

Clips should make an offer for gordon once he becomes restricted next year.

That wasn't even the Lakers fault. They had a plan all the pieces were falling into place but Stern and Gilbert pretty much screwed them over. Who knows what the Lakers had planned after acquiring CP3? They probably had a plan to get Dwight as well since their main goal was to get both. At the end of the day, the Lakers was screwed over by Stern/Gilbert and I really can't put blame on the Lakers. If all went according to plan, everyone would be saying Buss is a genius.

You're acting as if all of this was done (or not done) in a vacuum. There are two people to blame for the lakers being in this situation....

I'd much rather look back and lament how the original CP3 trade didn't work than feel like the Lakers were completely f***ed over from the get go.

I don't know. They were screwed by Stern, etc. because THEY let themselves get into that situation. If they had focussed on Howard, Stern etc. would be non-factors. Last year Phil Jackson said that trying to trade for Paul (NBA-owned) would be a nightmare. The NBA fined him. The Lakers must have known the potential complications.

We have no idea what their plans were/are. We only know what has happened to date, and it's not real good.

    Eh, hindsight being 20/20.

Easy to say "told you so" after everything has broken down to pieces.

The CBA meeting/signing just happened to be on the same day the deal was made so the owners complained to Stern face to face so he axed the deal. If it happened a day later, chances are the deal might have gotten through.

    Again, hindsight.

    What "told you so"?

I never thought the CP3 trade was good for the Lakers, even before the NBA stopped.

I will always think shipping Bynum out and going after Howard should have been the top priority.

They may still get Howard, but if they do it means Bynum/Gasol/Odom are gone. I think Bynum/Gasol for Howard would be fine, but at least keeping Odom.

The Lakers lost Odom and a 2nd round draft pick. Picked up Kapono, McRoberts, Gerald Green, 1st round draft pick, and a 9 million trade exception.

They got younger, dumped salary, and set themselves up for a possible blockbuster mid season trade.

Am I the only who thinks Mitch did a solid job?

I know you guys will jump all over me for this, but maybe the Clippers will get farther this year than the Lakers...

Which is almost good enough to make me a Clipper fan.

Great news! It'll be fun to watch Paul & Griffin. I used to go to Clippers games during the Michael Cage era. Maybe its not too late to jump back on the bandwagon.
