Actually, I am a Kobe fan. I am not a Lakers fan per se but I like Kobe, MJ, and leaders like them. They will themselves to win but this situation seems untenable. They can't stop Nowitski and Dallas, they can only outscore them. Dallas seems to be able to affect stops on the Lakers. When you can't defend a team better than they can defend you; that's not a good matchup.

I think the Lakers match-up well with Dallas, even against Nowitzki. Nowitzki is unguardable but they just need to prevent him from scoring 50 on them and just guard the rest. The Lakers also has Kobe in the unguardable category so it's about even there. Mavs just has a better playing bench and role players at the moment, Lakers role players and bench can explode at times but it's been rare lately.

It is also about other stepping up, the bench hasn't stepped up and Pau has been playing like a bitch right from the start. Dude could own Dirk in the post but he doesn't for some reason.

I'm with the Lakers all the way to the end but if they lose game 3, I am almost certain it is over. Right now, I still see a Miami vs. LA finals, game 3 will be a deciding game. Go big or go home time.
I agree that the Lakers CAN still do it. However, as a life-long fan, these 2 losses feel like some of those 2002-2007 playoffs. Just uninspiring and pretty listless. It makes fans mad. So does this shit: [IMG] [IMG]

Maybe with Ron being suspended could help with a win? No dumb shot selections from him and then come back motivated for game 4. It'll be a very interesting game 4.

Lakers beat themselves, what an abysmal performance.

Plenty of games left, I'm still thinking LA-Miami final.

    Not so much.

The problem is simply that the Mavs are beating them at every aspect of the game. Full stop. Making the big shots when they need to, playing within their system, playing hard at all times, and they have the random guys stepping up when they need to that always seems to be a big part of any championship team.
Oh, and non of their guys are MIA/shitting the bed.

Sorry son, but it was the Mavs that handed down the ass whippin. Be honest.

Fosho, Lakers are clearly the better team though you wouldn't know it past couple nights.

Really? Kobe looked unstoppable on both games, he isn't scoring 40 or more because they are doubling him or trapping him and when he kicks it out no one makes the shot but no one could guard him. Dirk looked unstoppable because they had to guard him one on one since the rest of the teams are making the shots. That is the main difference. If the other players in the Lakers can make their jumpshots, even their 3's, then Kobe would have more room to operate.

Kobe is obviously able to score and the Mavs can't stop that, so yes, in a sense he is unstoppable. But the difference between he and Dirk in this series so far is that Dirk is unstoppable in a game changing way. He can score to kill lakers momentum. Kobe has not been able to just demand the ball when they need 10 and go get them 10. Nor have the Mavs been forced out of their overall comfort zone defensively by him.
Dirk's play so far has had a far bigger impact than Kobe's.

That statement simply can't be made! You can say it. But, there is no basis in reality. The Mavs have been the better team the past couple of nights...period. And, actually, when Kidd covers Kobe, his miss quotient goes up.

Not true at all, Kobe barrage or 3's in game 1 gave them a huge lead and confidence, Phil just decided to sit him until their lead is down to 1. At times, it feels like when Kobe scores big it is because he chucks up a bunch of shots but in these 2 games, it feels like his shots and points has given them the lead or kept them on the game. It didn't feel like the typical Kobe take over where you know they'd lose because of bad shots and bad decisions, he played a solid game.

The Mavs seems to run away with it at the beginning of the fourth when Kobe sits, so I vote for Phil to keep Kobe int he game for those two quarters and go all or nothing, I bet the Lakers would win.

I love the Lakers, but there sure are a lot of "ifs", etc. being posted here. NorCal and Green have it right, imo: screw the "match-ups", the "if the bench", "if Pau", "if Ron", "if only" shit...Dallas has not only beaten but embarassed them the last 2 games. The Lakers are not the better team right now, and right now is the only time that counts. Pau better wake up and stop wasting Bynum's efforts, and Lamar needs to come up huge in game 3. A little bench guard help would be nice too.... I was working non-stop in April until this week...why did the Lakers sign Trey Johnson instead of a big for the play-offs, someone like Mbenga?
