Is it excessive to say that the officiating was terrible in game one of the heat-celtics series based on the calls that were rescinded today? The pitty-pat flagrant foul called on Jermaine O'Neal was rescinded to a personal foul. Unfortunately for Boston, the flagrant call during the game resulted in two free throws for miami and possession of the ball. On the following play, Bibby hit a three. That is a 5-point swing for a flagrant foul call that the NBA decided was the wrong call. The James Jones' hard foul on Paul Pierce was also upgraded to a flagrant foul. Had this been called during the game, that would have been two free throws for Ray Allen. Potentially, you are talking about a seven point swing in a game that was decided by nine points. Of course, this leads into the larger issue that Pierce was upset at being mauled by Jones and 50 seconds later was ejected for "verbal taunting." I've been watching the NBA for about 25 years now and I think that may have been the first time I've ever seen anyone ejected from a game for cursing at the opposing player. Realistically, no NBA team would have enough players to finish a game if players were given technicals for talking trash. In the end, all you can ask for from officials is consistency. As long as the calls are consistently pitty pat or fouls are called tight on both ends, I think that's all anyone can ask for. But in this case, when you have a moving block by O'Neal called as a flagrant but Jones' arms swinging down onto Pierce's neck and head is somehow "missed," it seems like its not being called the same at both ends. In this case, the victim Pierce gets upset and curses Wade out on an ensuing foul, and he is tossed for getting upset about being flagrantly fouled with no call. Well, at least, the correct call was made two days later. It is no wonder that nba conspiracy theorists abound when a series of poor officiating calls lead to boston's leading scorer, who with 9 minutes remaining in the 4th had already scored 17 points in the second half, is summarily ejected for potty mouth. This series was hyped as the most eagerly anticipated conference semifinal in NBA history and this is the best officiating crew that the NBA could come up with . . . [IMG]
I agree that the way flagrant fouls are called is idiotic. It seems like every time you touch someone's head or neck you're going to get called. I think neither the o'neal nor the jones fouls were flagrant. There was clearly no intent behind either one. There was an even stupider flagrant called on Josh Smith last night when Kurt Thomas slammed into him in midair, causing him to dangerously lose his balance and his arm windmilled and hit the Bulls shooter in the head. But those things even themselves out during a game, or at least in a series, unless you want to argue bias. And I don't see bias, just stupidity. Pierce should have got ejected for head butting James Jones. The refs showed restraint by just calling the T. And he decided to further try his luck by getting into a confrontation with Wade. If there's one thing that refs are calling consistently over the past few playoffs, it's that double T on players who get into confrontations. Pierce knew better but what do you expect from one of the biggest drama queens in sports

Anyone who doesn't think bad officiating is affecting the outcome of games is a fool.

i thought there were three big problems in that laker game:
    1) after kobe hit the 3 that put them up by 16, everybody on the team decided THEY were kobe. offense went to hell and everybody started lofting jump shots rather than working the offense. only took 6-7 minutes to lose that lead.
    2) not exactly sure what phil's rationale was for leaving gasol on nowitzki in the close, since lamar had had far more success defensively against him this game.
    3) artest played a great defensive game, but worked WAY too hard to get into the offensive scheme. i'm not going to get after him about missing open 3s when they come within the flow of the offense, but some of those shots were just ron-ron crazy.

On its face, the technical on Pierce was a bad call, but I bet the ref, Malloy, gets a gold star from the league for the message it sent. Message being: DONT PROVOKE FIGHTS WHEN YOU GET DOWN 13! Timing of the message was excellent. Hard to argue that tossing a not particularly stellar Pierce cost Boston the game, BUT things were just close enough that it had to hurt. Bet we see good behavior from here out.

Lakers aren't in such bad position. Bynum won't continue to play this weak and Bryant will continue to play this well (maybe better). It doesn't seem like anyone on Mavs can guard him.

Randolph is out of his mind. Not sure it will last.

Heat are handling Celtics as men handle boys.

If the Ladies can beat Dallas, I get to go back to hating on them.

    Life is good.

    HOLY MACARONI! That hiney!

One of the things I hate is Sportscenter's writers.

Today, their replay of the MIA/BOS game "Celtics down three but from then on--it was all LeBron" few seconds later "Celtics tied the game but it was all Heat the rest of the game". WTF. Don't be like they get close, but no shot, and then completely dismiss out of hand a tie or close game to immediately reemphasize a team pulling away.

when she's getting pounded from behind... and she feels it going in straight... do you think she notices the difference and remembers RayRay's crooked penor?

I like how she's both big chested and round assed. Some girls (white girls especially) have the big boobs and no ass combo which is disappointing (kinda like on how the Celtics are playing right now).
