I simply don't have time to watch a game live/on TV. I have an hour, so a DVR is my only option. I guess the only annoyance for me is I have to hit the forward button more often.

The whole foul shooting process itself might slow down a bit but I would imagine it would eliminate hack a shack thus speeding the game up. This way teams can still use fouling as a timeout type strategy but be forced to play defense instead of relying bad free throw shooting from the other team's player

It's fairly simple. You get hacked. Your coach gets to decide whether you'll shoot free throws or if the team will inbound the ball. Inbounding the ball would be faster than shooting free throws.

I just don't want to spend 20 30 minutes to watch free throw shooting at the very end

It is interesting to me that despite all the mandatory stoppage time and playing in the nicely air-conditioned arenas, basketball players still frequently manage to run out of gas in the 4th quarter. In the soccer players have to play 45 minutes stretches with little stoppage time in between and generally have to run more due to the size of the pitch and manage it alright.
I cannot watch any more NBA live either, it is more fun and productive to read the game summaries and watch highlights.

Don't soccer players run only when the ball is near them? Like if you're attacking, your teammates on defense don't run as much

In basketball everybody is constantly sprinting not just up and down the court but around and through screens, constantly jumping. Plus everybody is so much bigger than most soccer players. Centers especially tend to be the largest guys and have to travel the most distance since they have to linger near the rim.

The difference between soccer and basketball is the sprinting. In soccer they cover much more distance but they do it at a different pace. Soccer player are generally more fit IMO, and basketball player's raw size plays a role in their endurance. Still, when you see some guys gassed at the end of the 1st, it does make you wonder.

Back to fouling. It's the main reason the games have gotten so slow. A foul was originally intended as a punishment for a mistake. In it's most honorable flavor, you shouldn't be committing intentional fouls as they're inherently not a mistake. If a guy beats you to the rim, hacking him so the easy points are not given becomes questionable given the spirit of what fouls should be.

You can't really police intent but you can make a foul more valuable by allowing fewer. Net effect is that you'll get to see a guy finish a well crafted move instead of some Robin Lopez arm racking and then 2 minutes of play grinding to a halt.

this kid can ball. 5'10. he's really good at using jail, has a knack for steals, and rarely turns the ball over

suns get such good backcourt players. they should engineer some trades with the sixers

Ben Simmons 5-15 in summer league t-night.

He's going to spend the first 2-3 years of his career with a crappy fg % while the teams wait for him to develop. Meanwhile, everyone will give him space, block passing lanes and box him out by proxy. He'll struggle to get points, passes or boards. Up to him to sort out the shooting, otherwise it's a waste of a pick.

Giannis was very similar, though - but so was Michael Carter though 3in shorter - I see much more gumption in Giannis than I do in Simmons. I'll DVR the first game they match up. Simmons has an uphill climb, his negative traits in college are quite real.

He wasn't drafted for his shooting so I'm not sure it matters.

Right, he was drafted for 'upside'. The guy does a lot well, but he's going to get badly exposed if he can't shoot. He was drafted because the Phila model is to go hunting for a superstar, and quite a large part of superstardom is scoring, deny it if you want.

They're also adding ads to jerseys starting in the 2017-2018 season. GSW is asking for $20 million per year for a spot on their uniforms. I personally don't have a problem with it, but I can see how some hardcore purists might. I don't mind as long as it's either high-profile companies that people can easily recognize or smaller local companies that are based in the region the team plays in. I just don't want to see a logo of some dipshit Bangladeshi toilet paper manufacturer on a Knicks Jersey.

Advertising on jerseys is nothing new, the US has remarkably resisted it for all this time.

If this were done in exchange for fewer TV time outs I would be really happy about it, but I doubt that will happen.

80's era showtime Lakers and 80's era Playboy Inc. would've been a jersey sponsorship (and Laker Girls sponsorship tie-in) match made in heaven.
