The craziness goes on. Knicks, Lakers, and Hawks decided to behave like it is year 2011

I'm happy to see nba players get paid, but I think mlb players get paid in a better scale (stars get huge non yearly capped contracts) scrubs and rookies get exponentially smaller.

with salary cap + guaranteed 51% share of revenue its the middle class and even lower class players getting huge salary bumps (just like before). Lebron and durant would probably get like $60-90 year and scrubs like deon waiters should be getting $5-10 million year.

Knicks are reminding me of the 2011-12 Knicks with Tyson Chandler, Mike Bibby, Baron Davis, Carmelo, and Amare.

Luol is a solid player and he is getting paid well, so good decision to join Lakers by him. I just do not understand what Lakers trying to do this season. If they want to get the play-off spot, then the guys they are signing are probably not good enough to guarantee that outcome. If they want to rebuild, it seems rather slow and inefficient way to do it, as they should go for younger guys instead.

yeah, Ingram should be getting 30+ minutes a game unless they plan to play small by putting him at 4 and Randall at 5 and Deng at 3? The coach is Walton but then is it going to be worth it paying Mozgov that much to get little burn?

and  @ Tom Brady being part of the Boston recruiting team for Durant

What is it with Harrison Barnes? Dallas is offering him max money. I've only witnessed a small sample size of his games, which is mostly a few hype games super early on, and then these disappointing finals vs. the Cavs. When I took at his stats, they seem average for a 24-year old starting NBA player, and his PER (12) does not stand out. Is there something I'm missing, potential still on the radar, a defensive specialist?

it's a dual pronged attack on the Warriors - force the Warriors to pay the max (also create strife in the locker room with Barnes being paid at least double the salary of klay, curry, draymond). also if ever dubs call the bluff they get a new player and force the dubs to find expensive replacement regardless.

Horford to the Celtics. Still don't think they can beat the Cavaliers without a true go-to scorer like Durant though.

Jeffersons coming off the bench so he's just there for back-up.

Horfords a very good signing but I am still unsure if they come off the top of the East even with Durant.

Cavs still has Love to trade and still get better.

Rockets got Eric Gordon? Good back-up with Harden I guess? Or is Harden going to run as a PG more?

Sucks that EG can't stay healthy, dude was doing real well there for a hot second with the Clips.

They got Ryan Anderson so the "3 or die" motto continues?

the amount of money these players are getting is a bit out of hand. 64 million for mozgov and mahimi? conley has the richest contract in the nba? i think we should be getting some of this money back as fans.

Barnes is better then the finals (or Ldnfl) would suggest. He is a 24 year old fourth option on a title team. He plays both ways, has good size and quickness, and is a really good athlete. He also is not a head case and has played an important role for a really good team. An announcer called him a "Rainbow Player beautiful when you see him but only comes out sometimes." I guess the Mavs assume if they make it rain, the rainbow is sure to follow?

That said, he is not really a max guy under "normal" circumstances, but when Tim Mazog is getting paid . . .

In other news, I'm pretty bummed on how all in the Dubs seem on Durant. I honestly feel like Al Horford would have been a better get.

I suppose I should not worry too much though as all the teams that have won the last few titles have been pretty quite. Spurs, Heat, Cavs and Dubs.

I really would have like to see the Dubs do the full court press, fly out the stars treatment for Hartford and Batum though, fuck Durant, and let Barnes and Bogut go.

I reminds me of watching footage of people looting during Katrina. Everyone gets all the free shit they want.

He's not a max guy under any circumstances, not even worth 5m a year. The Mavs are idiots, but I guess they lost Chandler so they need to find a replacement. How stupid can you be to reward a guy that "comes out sometimes".

I'm not sure why being a 4th option on a title team is a case for a max deal. He is going to be one of the highest paid players on his team (even with the cap spike unless the team gives out multiple max deals for the next 2-3 summers which would be ridiculous, but possible I suppose).

For the last 6 titles team, here was the #4 scorer:

    Cavs: J.R. Smith
    Spurs: Ginobili (36 years old)
Heat: Ray Allen (37 years old)
    Heat: Mario Chalmers
    Mavs: Shawn Marion
    Lakers: Lamar Odom

The #4 option is a role player. None of them were All-Stars on the title team (or even during their entire tenure on that title team if you exclude Ginobili). It would be pretty far-fetched to imagine a title team consisting of any of those players to be the #2 or #3 option unless you had 2 bonafide stars leading the team (which would beg the question why the hell would you need to pay 20M for Barnes?).

But perhaps I'm not looking into this cap spike enough. I thought Bazemore and Barnes were fairly similar players and Bazemore's getting 17.5M/year so maybe 20M/year for Barnes is ok. This is of course assuming that Bazemore's contract is ok.

i think many scouts don't consider Barnes to be a role player, which is what he's been asked to be on the dubs.

he's probably one of the few contracts that are pending that actually has a shot of being a cornerstone. he's extremely athletic but can also shoot, can defend, is not just smart but intelligently spoken, works hard. the DNA is there, now we'll see how he does in a more central role.

EDIT: sorry, because idfnl doesn't know how to post i'm forced to respond to ninja-edited garbage. my post is referring to Barnes getting paid as a prospect, which is what he is.

When you hit reply you get what was there in that moment. All I did was make a few grammatical changes and add half a sentence.

True talent worth of high salaries shows it. At some point Butler and Leonard were 4th options. Loudmouth Draymond was a bench player behind Lee and emerged. The argument he's contained is bullshit. NBA history is littered with guys that lost the battle of talent vs ego. He's had 4 years to show something (including big minutes in 2 finals) but he just doesn't have it.
