1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

Once the ball got into the paint, it looks like a rugby match. I guess the kick out pass to the 3 point shooter didn't really exist yet. Madness.

And no iso (at least in the video) where the ballhandler stays in place for 5 seconds dribbling. Everybody is running around. I'm exhausted just watching.

Three-point shot had only been around for two years at that point. At first it was regarded as almost a gimmick, and it took some years before it really started getting incorporated as an integral part of offensive schemes.

well the 3 pt line was a new thing only in its 2nd year

its kind of like soccer or hockey where everyone is always moving around and there's a flow.

Trade deadline madness has started. Tobias Harris has been traded to the Pistons for Brandon Jennings and Ersan Ilyasova. Both Ilyasova and Vucevic are defensive liabilities, so playing them together will probably have disastrous consequences...

Also, Memphis has traded Courtney Lee to the Hornets.

    Good trade for the Pistons.

I love that old footage. Players aren't leaps and bounds more athletic now, though the path to their development has improved, so they are generally more athletic. What has happened is that the selection process and finding of talent has evolved. Lebron would have been found eventually, but he was found at like 11 yrs old, whereas in this era he would have been noticed as a HS senior. The access to talent has improved, so the parody of quality doesn't have the same chasm you see in the 80s. All 12 on aggregate are better players than in the early 80s. This shifted in the mid 90s.

In the future, guys will be found in the womb. For good or bad.

Was watching some YouTube of the 1988 ECF … the Bird v. Wilkins shootout. Just awesome.

Me too, but (a) Simmons was entertaining at the start but grew more and more full of himself as time went by, and (b) it was his writers and contributors that quickly surpassed his value to the site

    Under armour has fans??

This seems totally weird to me because I've always seen them as athletic underwear (hence the name). It's like saying I'm a Hanes fan

Channing Frye is being targeted by the Clippers and the Cavs. Cleveland is willing to give up Anderson Varejao for him, but they need a 3rd team to take on his contract.

And of course, the Sixers gonna Sixer:
