I recently purchased a pair of these pants that are a navy and white gingham. As a college student who loves to be bold and dress up, I got these with the intention of wearing them to a semi-formal with a blue blazer on top and a plain white dress shirt underneath. Do you think this look would be acceptable? Is there any other way I could incorporate these pants into my wardrobe? Thanks for the help![IMG]

I think the look in question would be acceptable in those situations where navy/white gingham pants, white shirt, and navy blazer would be acceptable.

Few "looks" are inherently acceptable or unacceptable. These things depend greatly on when and where they will be worn.

I'm not familiar with the semi-formal at which you'd like to dress this way. Presumably, you know more about how people dress for it, than I do. So, will most of the other men in attendance be in suits, or in blazers? If suit, what sort of suits? If you're going with a date, what will your date be wearing? Where (geographically) and when (time of year) will the semi-formal be held? And by whom? Answers to these questions could clarify just how you ought to dress.

Yes, you're a college student. College students tend to be permitted rather more freedom of dress than are most age groups between the the onset of adolescence and the entrenchment of senility. Just the same, some looks are still more appropriate than others for a given occasion, and by virtue of asking your question, you're presumably concerned with what others will think of how you're dressed at the semi-formal.

At this point, the only definite I can offer you is that in contrast to the picture provided, you should plan on wearing socks. :)

I'd suggest you add a bow tie and a pocket square to the look for a semi-formal. As for wearing them regularly, they'd be fine with a white or navy polo shurt or even a button down dress shirt with the sleeves rolled up and a pair of topsiders or loafers without socks. Think 1960s JFK style for inspiration.
