I know these are both very basic and easy to match, but I was just wondering which one people wear more often? Or which one goes better with dark brown shoes?

Navy trousers are hardly versatile at all. They're great when they're part of a navy suit but as odd trousers charcoal always is more versatile.

Charcoal is more versatile, but I actually prefer navy when I'm wearing a sports coat that can accommodate either.

+1. Charcoal is the standard odd trouser.

Navy pants can be more troublesome, but I think that they can be worn without necessarily looking like you forgot the suit coat. Couple things that come to mind when doing so: Do not wear with navy blazer. Look for lighter shades of navy. I think brown shoes help, as well.

Medium grey is much more versatile than charcoal, which will always tend to look like orphaned suit pants.

I also prefer medium gray. I'm not a fan of navy trousers.

Unless you deliver something for a living, charcoal. I do agree with Foo's comment however.

Charcoal is a terrible odd pants color. I cannot vote for that.

And the blue trousers nonsense continues... gotta love SF - hardly ever surprising...

My most worn odd trousers are navy, charcoal, and medium grey.

FYI for every 2 pair of navy, we sell 2 pair of charcoal and 3 pair of medium gray. Medium gray wins 3 to 2 when put up against navy or charcoal.

Do you fail to see the ... irony is maybe the wrong word ... how about ... incongruity ... in this post?

None of either. One is a personal opinion on a particular trousers color, while the other one is presented as the word of God who descended upon us to impart that rule. The particular vs the general. Individual vs groupthink. Freedom vs totalitarism...

Well, then you phrased your post badly.
