Navy tweed jacket: dark plastic or silver buttons?

Going for youthful well-dressed geek look. Have fair skin and dark brown hair.

The original came with smoky plastic buttons; considering changing to silver.

Hopefully those original buttons are horn and not plastic, which breaks easily. Metal buttons are more traditional in navy blazers (at least in America; not so in Europe). I would leave as is.

^Second the foregoing. Horn buttons are very appropriate for a tweed jacket, metal buttons are not. Some men like leather buttons with tweed, but I am not among them.

The metal buttons give the tweed jacket a look similar to our traditional "Janker" jackets that are so fashionable in Bavaria and Austria; think lederhosen and hunting jacket ;-).

maxalex is right, metal buttons are typically worn on navy blazers with plain or only lightly structured cloth.
