hi,

what are the rules with wearing navy suits / ties?

i am going to a wedding and intend to wear a navy suit and white dress shirt with a navy tie (same colour as suit).

Is this ok or a no no?

Cheers.

It's fine. Also refer to 'The Adjustment Bureau'. Matt Damon wear a navy suit, with a blue shirt and a navy tie.

It's somewhat monochromatic, but maybe mix it up with a textured tie- knit, grenadine, herringbone, etc. Definitely not satin

Navy tie would be my first choice when wearing a navy suit.

Although navy suit, blue shirt and navy tie can work, I am not a fan - having a different colour shirt, can create a nice constrast.

I'm with what luftvier said about the monochromatic look of a navy suit with a matching tie. I would at least go for a different shade of blue or better with some pattern in it to make it stand out. The last wedding I went to I also wore a Navy blue suit / white shirt , but went with a red tie w/ a slight pattern to it, after I read in an article that women find red on a man, sexy.

Actually not mine. Navy suit, white shirt, dark burgundy tie, that's my favorite combination. Navy suit and navy tie certainly work in a very restrained way, but it is not the most creative choice. IMHO.

You must look like the average republican politician if burgundy was replaced by red.

navy suit/white shirt is a blank canvas. you can rock just about any colored tie with that...

A navy suit, white shirt and plain navy tie strikes me as both uniform-like and rather somber. Maybe for a funeral but not for a wedding, which, after all, is supposed to be a festive event.

Being German I don't see that many republican politicians from the US in everyday life.

If I have to choose a style icon amongst contemporary american politicians it certainly would be this guy.
