Ok guys I've read some of the threads but they didn't quiet answer my questions. Tomorrow I will be shopping for a new blazer but I don't know whether to get it in Navy or in Black. So here's some info:
I usually wear black pants, different color dress shirts, dark blue jeans, black shoes or boots, and graphics shirts whether long or short sleeve. I'm a college student age 19, tan complexion, and if it matters my hair is shoulder length dark (almost black) brown. Any help is greatly appreciated.

One more question. Dress shirt with jeans... Tucked or untucked with blazer? Yes or No?

Thanks.

Navy.

I also agree that tucked looks much cleaner. The only time I ever untuck is if I'm wearing a sweater underneath. Something about a sweater over jeans looks strange to me.

Let me add another perspective. Black in my opinion looks quite fashionable these days and I find it making a comeback. I like the black blazer in an unstructured look with dark slim tapered jeans and black shoes.
The navy would work as well but it follows the oh so narrow notion that anything but, is for farmer or waiter and follows along the groupthink of stodginess.

I don't really follow what I am saying myself above, but I hope you get my general point.

A dress shirt (depending on what kind, more so like a steve alan shirt as opposed to a more formal borrelli or rl dress shirt where the tails call for a tuck in) can work well with a casual blazer somewhat not tucked in but I got to see it and it's definitely case by case.
Make sure the coat is casual not structured at all (soft shoulder) and fitted (perhaps higher hem of coat to 27 inches with same length arm sleeve for a regular to achieve the 'shrunken' coat effect).

Especially for a 19 year old, it is ok to expand your horizons and try the black (along with the navy ) and experiment and mix and match.

From your age and description of your current style it seems like you'll be wearing the blazer more for nightlife/casual dress than professional dress. If that's the case I'll agree with sho'nuff and say black might be a better look for you. In my opinion you'll look much cooler going out to parties and bars/clubs in a slim black blazer and jeans than a classic navy blazer.

Navy please. Black is too easy - that's why every goof wears them.

And tucked.

I agree with the consensus that navy is your go-to color for blazers, but I did once come across a vintage Oxxford blazer (early 60s), black, in an open weave, with gilt buttons. Had it been my size, I would have grabbed it.

I wear a black blazer with jeans every once in a while when I go out casually at night. I'd never wear it to the office, it's just such a stark colour for day wear.

I'm generally not much of a fan of black... shoes, jacket or suit.
