So I am looking for advice as to the shirt I should wear under a navy blue blazer with jeans. Chances are the belt and shoes would be brown. Colors/examples would be appreciated.

My suggestion is for a crisp, clean white shirt that is well fitted with a relaxed spread collar. Here is an example of my "regular" look. You can change the look a bit by deleting the pocket square or giving it a straight TV fold.

white, light green, light blue, light pink, burgundy, you can wear so many colors with that combination. I think a plain white shirt is classic and looks clean though.

Try a button down collar.

Why? Because people always fail to consider it as an option. They don't always work, but I think BDs look good when worn under a sweater because they do not permit the collar to lay on top of the sweater (I can't stand this). In conclusion, BD + sweater + jacket = win.

i noticed the person in the picture is wearing a balmoral...like Park Ave's but straight toe instead of captoe. i thought balmorals were supposed to be more formal, didnt know you could wear those with jeans... does that mean you could wear Park Aves with jeans/slacks?

A white dress shirt would provide the best/sharpest contrast with the navy, giving you a more dressier look.

Lilac, a pale pink, lavender -- soft colors -- would also look nice and a bit more stylish than white.

I'd definitely go with a lighter color, though.

White is a good choice with dark denim but if you're wearing lighter coloured denim, then a navy poplin shirt always looks sharp.

I don't like navy blazers with blue jeans....some shades may work for you though. How about white jeans and white dress shirt?
