Most blazers are year round weight, but if you want to use it just for FW you could have something made in a heavier fabric, maybe around 11oz. With regard to the buttons, you could do silver/pewter or brown horn if you don't like gold. Here's one that isn't the dated nautical look but is still squarely a blazer, not a sport coat.

Buttons are the easiest thing to replace, so don't let that be a limiting factor if you find a blazer you like.
