i saw that Bylsma and Laviolette are behind the US bench. I thought nothing of it until Twitter reminded me of bench shouting matches between these guys and their teams during some epically entertaining playoff series.
IIHF will change dislodged net rule after USA/Russia controversy
Not too sure why Russia's loss is considered "stunning." They have underperformed (more or less) the entire Olympics and have always had a lack-luster defense. When you add that to Finland's goaltending dominance, I wasn't really ever thinking a landslide was in the cards.
On a (somewhat) related note, does anyone have a line on streaming the US/Czech game this afternoon? I'm at the office and don't have my cable provider info, so I can't access NBC-Plus...
Too close for comfort for Canada vs Latvia. What a goalie.
Yzerman had to be a little glad his prospect was playing out of his mind. What a goalie.
Ive only now started to breathe. Jeez. Great game by Latvia... Hopefully they can elevate their status in international play.
I'm really impressed with Finland... They're absolutely more than the sum of their parts. Canada could learn a thing or two. Tough for Russia to bow out so early on home ice though; as much as I'd like to revel in schadenfreude, that's a rough outcome.
Latvia's goalie was a fucking stud. Tampa sure has some depth in goal.
Did you see dat glove save vs Switzerland the other day? Different goalie, but hnnnng.
Tavares done for the year. obviously a huge blow to the Isles, but on the flip side they would have needed an improbably surge to get into the playoffs this year. odds are they'll trade Vanek for an asset (goalie?) then look for a fresh start to 2014-2015.
Huge blow not only for this year. That injury could really affect him if it doesn't heal correctly....

fair and totally valid point. if it is career-hampering, i wonder what the NHL consensus will be on the 2018 Olympics.

Flyers owner Ed Snider on the Olympics: 'I hate them'
Snider and Holmgren's opinion is invalid.
