Narrow Ties Appropriate For Interview?

I have some interviews coming up. I have both a three-button charcoal suit and a two-button navy suit. I'm tall & thin, and both suits fit fairly well (towards a Euro-cut). Are "narrow ties" appropriate? I have a bunch of traditional ties, but they seem a bit outdated. Thoughts? Something like this?

I have one or two ties that are 3" wide which I think are appropriate for any occassion. Any narrower than that and you're getting into a very trendy look, and not so much professional.

Generally I think a 3 inch tie is fine for an interview. I don't think either of those ties work though. I don't think black is a safe choice. I also think you should avoid satiny ties. A grenadine maroon or navy with the suits you describe would be a great choice imho. hope this helps.

I think slim ties are professional, of course there are width limits. I mean, dont wear something that can be confused with a shoe string wrapped around your neck to an interview... then again... dont ever wear such a skinny tie

I found one at a steal at the Filenes on Boylston a few weeks ago. Sam Hober has some nice ones, but they're not super-cheap. edit: never mind. Hober's are 3.75 inches wide

Narrow ties are fine as long as your suit has narry lapels and a slimmer fit. In the 1950s and 1960s ties were quite narrow, not sure how all the stores are stuck at 3.5" lately. The tie you posted looks 3", which I would not consider to be narrow at all.

Most my ties these days are 2" with no taper, but they don't look too skinny.

I'll second that 3 inches is fine, 2 1/2 questionable, and under that dangerous. It all depends of course on the type of job and company you are interviewing for. If you are worried that your tie may cause you problems, be more conservative, go up to 3 1/2 and break out the thin ties when you are hired.
