I suggest something simple and traditional, like "Steve" or "Jeff."

I always thought ordinary houses had numbers, not names.

Even on larger properties, I find names, e.g., "The Elms," highly pretentious. Ranches--like the XIT Ranch--may be a different matter.

I rather like the example of U.S. Grant: When his pretentious (and pro-Confederate) father-in-law named his farm "Wish-ton-wish" (an Indian--forget which tribe--word for "whipoorwil"), Grant named his farm "Hardscrabble."

So, maybe pick a defining hobby or passion you and your wife share?

There's a really sick joke here somewhere...

How about something similiar to the sire..Wait, you said HOUSE. WTF. Surely you jest! Houses are not names unless they had the acres to back it up....

We have decided that our new house needs a name.

    Does it, though?

    Does it?

I think it would be a good idea to call your house PENISVILLE.

We have decided that our new house needs a name. Even though we are not rich, nor is this place a mansion I want a name regardless. Naming it after us is out. And the Historic Preservation method of the 'most important people who lived there' is also out. So we need a name like:

    The Breakers
    The Biltmore
    Goldeneye (Ian Flemming place)
    Sagamore
    Mt. Vernon
(Whatever the name of the House was in the Great Gatsby - Does anyone know? I couldnt find it)

    Thoughts?

    Yes...PLEASE don't!

We always name houses & cars.

On Nantucket, a house is traditionally named and the name is displayed on a carved, painted quarterboard.
