Has the nail pattern recently changed? It seems as if along with the change in the box, the nail pattern has changed from the one featured in the "sticky" to the nail pattern traditionally associated with the handmade line. Does anyone know if this is purely aesthetic, or a marker of improved quality? If nothing else, I love that blue sole.

Good question. I recently bought a pair of very lightly worn Sutors, which did not have the cluster of three nails on the heel - they were evenly placed along the periphery of the heel. Also, the sole was not blue but brown.

According to the website, these particular shoes were from the spring/summer '08 line: the derby con puntale.

That's very interesting, as I thought that the the nail pattern and sole color may just be a function of a recent aesthetic change by SM. But if the spring/summer 08 doesn't have it, then that might not be the case. Traditionally, the anil pattern, as I understand it, was the way to distinguish the handmade from the lower-lines. But if blake-stitched models now have the same pattern/blue sole.....? I'm confused.

Don't be confused because the data supporting my claims is n=1.

Are there any SM enthusiasts on the Forum?
