Do a hard reset/power cycle on the wireless router. It will clear out the password (which you should set again for you to forget later).

how? seriously i need to have my hand held through this whole process. right now all there is is a modem, wireless router, and my laptop. the router has never been hooked up to my laptop, so i have no software downloaded. um also, could i somehow just unlock the router?
