I've taken some photos of the fitting garment and was hoping to get some feedback here. I think the jacket is a better starting point than the trousers, but I am hoping that letting out the crotch in back will resolve a lot of the issues. I'm sending the photos to them for their recommendations on fit, but I'd appreciate if you knowledgeable folks could chime in about things like buttoning point stance, gorge height, lapel shape/width, quarters, and how to optimize for my short and stout stature.

I believe this is just a "house cut," whereas I've given them the following (wishful thinking) image as a template for how I'd like the actual suit to be constructed:

can you re-post your template image of what you were trying to achieve?

Not sure why it didn't work the first time. I've emailed My Tailor to confirm, but I don't think they applied the styling requests to the fitting garment. It seems this was just to confirm dimensions were acceptable.

I'd like the finished suit to be cut like this.

It looks like the button stance is much higher in your jacket than the exemplar, but it's hard to tell without being able to see your waist.

thanks! I'll be interested to see how the final product comes out...I have become much more interested in using MyTailor after I learned that they do fitting garments and basted fittings for additional charges. for someone who doesn't wear formal suits a ton, it makes me much more confident I'll have something that I like the fit of on the first go around.

did they just use a random fabric they had some excess of for the fitting garment or is it something similar to what you're going for?

Not at all similar, they just use whatever excess cheap wool they have at the production facility in Hong Kong.

Y’all have completely different bodies dude.....not sure that’s a good point of reference. I hope you’re happy with the final outcome

True, we are not built the same, but I don't think that particular cut can only look good on one body type. There are great OTR suits that are worn successfully by all types of men. The details aren't too outlandish: slightly wide, full-bodied lapel, low buttoning point, angular open quarters, high-waisted trousers. I think these would all complement my short/stocky frame fairly well. This fitting garment is also a very light wool with cheap fused canvas, so the actual suit will certainly have more body and better lines. If anybody has specific suggestions, though, I am all ears.

Divij was nice enough to make a mock-up with some suggested changes to get closer to my request. His changes are in red, although I drew a new lapel line in green:

Longtime intermittent lurker here. Registered just to express my thanks. Thx in particular to tweedyprof for the idea to have Kamakura collar-inspired shirts made.

I learned of mytailor from this site 6 or so years ago. I just had additional shirts made after seeing this thread.

Service at mytailor has always been exceptional. Joe and/or his son always spend a great deal of time and attention with me to find the right fabrics or tweak the fit. On the most recent order, I requested a last minute switch of the fabrics for two shirts a couple weeks after submitting the order. Joe made some calls and was able to make the change even though the order had already made it to production.

What does the Kamakura collar-inspired shirts look like?

Would love to see a photo when you can!

I decided to proceed with one of their basic VBC 110 navy fabrics. Should work well enough for a workhorse suit and it was inexpensive in case the first try turns out not to work well for me.
