Can anybody confirm for me how these soles are attached just by looking at the photos, or is there not enough information? Thanks!

Can you describe the soles? I assume you don't have a picture.

Not that I'd be able to tell from that, of course, but a more-knowledgable member might know.

You mean the sole bottoms? They are channel-stitched.

It is impossible to say, seeing just those pictures. Run your fingertips over the insole. Is there a row of stitching (inside the shoe), possibly covered by a full sock (insole liner). If yes, then it one of the Blake-stitch variations.

I have a suspicion that the welt is fake, a bonwelt, which is purely decorative and comes with the stitching already in place in big rolls of 50 or 100 meters. In the second picture you see the join where the welt meets with the rand that goes around the heel. If there is a stitch cut half way through, then you can be certain the stitching was in place before the welt was cut to the required length.

But,as I said, I cannot be certain just from the pictures..

There is a full sock liner inside, so you can to see whether there is Blake stitching.

My best guess is that the construction is Blake Rapid.

looks like he's buying shoes for his S/O or relative and does not know much about mid-tier retailers and respective brands carried.

foo has been too spoiled by online retail and the MTO options where every detail is at your fingertips. i'm the same way. i avoid shopping for clothes at stores for the most part unless they are boutiques/independent.

I've neer really bought online MTO, but you are otherwise on the mark.

I doubt the stitching on this particular pair of shoes is decorative. The vendor tells me the soles are "stitched on" but has no idea what the difference is between Goodyear, Blake, Blake-Rapid, etc. So, assuming the vendor is not lying, the soles are at least Blake stitched. I cannot see for sure since the insoles are not exposed. Does anyone bother to Blake stitch a sole, then cement on a strip of fake welt? Seems to me it would be only marginally more work, if any, to add on a proper rapid-stitched outsole.

So, I am fairly confident these are Goodyear welted or Blake-Rapid stitched. I am not well-versed enough in shoes to tell the difference just by looking at the outsides. Obviously, it would be a different story if I could cut them open.

Is there a way to distinguish between a Goodyear welt and a Blake-Rapid mid-sole, just by looking at the outside of a shoe?
