Another thing, I don't think anybody in Naples cuts their pizza. As we witnessed, you're supposed to tear at it. That wouldn't fly in middle America.

How about just outside of Naples?

Mina and Dino took us all into the hills of old Napoli for what I can only describe as the best pizza I have ever had, the highlight of which was “pizza fritta” – a pizza which is half-fried and which Parker and I as Californians are probably forbidden from eating, at the risk of losing our state residency. The place was absolutely packed for a Thursday evening and even with Mina and Dino knowing the owners we still had to wait 90 minutes for a table. The dinner was worth every minute of that wait, and I’m forever spoiled for pizza…

But this comment was particularly dumb as he's saying that the most Naples-inspired Napolitan pizza maker in NYC (Motorino, since UVPN moved to SF) is actually much better than the Napolitan pizza he is emulating. [IMG]

I'd like to try it out for myself. But I love NY-style pizza in its own right--it's just a different animal and shouldn't be compared to the authentic Neapolitan stuff. Big Nick's on the UWS is awesome.

is it liek ny'ers believe that the best is found there?
something like vegas and its replicas?

I've found many NYCers to be surprisingly provincial in their artistic and musical tastes.

Snobbish provincialism, which is even worse.

Slathered in Red Hot sauce, with couple bottles of Rolling Rock.

Dude, Totino's pepperoni crispy crust pizza is a legitimately awesome pizza.

That's not a traditional Neapolitan pizza. It's some sort of fried variety.

Actually, this is also a fairly traditional form of Napolitan pizza.

By the way, that puffy pizza in the OP looks very much like the pizza you'd find at Olio in the village. Can't eat too much of that though, it's very filling.

Also resembles the crust at Keste

One of the great things about Boston is that we have none of that.

In Medtech's pic, what are the eggroll looking things on the plate above the pizza?

These look like a perfect example of American "sophistication."
