My Visit to Jantzen

Hi,

Well I am glad I was able to get to Jantzen and have Ricky do my measuring. I am not sure if I am going to do a “rate my Jantzen” posting. A special thanks to everyone who replied to my PMs to prep me for my visit. Especially Douglas who gave me a very detailed pm, which helped me make sure I got the right person to measure me and directed me to some of the better fabrics (slightly more expensive by about USD4.) I went with MOP buttons.

Ricky let me take some pics and some samples. I am posting the pics to give you addicts a look at what the store looks like. I agreed not to show any faces so I apologize in advance for the ugly black I used to block out people’s faces.

When I got there it was crowded and I had to wait a bit which allowed me time to look through the various fabric books. I looked a little out of place in my sweaty t-shirt and shorts. But I waited patiently. Ricky measured me and then told me to come back the next day to see my test shirt. My test shirt (see the pics) had temporary cuffs and collar. At first I thought they got the order wrong. Ricky was there to assist me again and made the various adjustments. I came back on the third day to pick up the shirts. I think the pics below tell the rest of the story.

Here is a link to the swatches I got. http://www.styleforum.net/showthread.php?t=84447

what's wrong with the collars, besides that the shirts are new, rumpled and need to be pressed???? in fact, ricky asks you to choose your collar style, size, shape, interlining, fused, non-fused etc etc....and he gives you the chance to make corrections before you walk out with your shirts....so if you spend time at his store, but your shirt doesn't come out like you wanted, you only have yourself to blame.

The shop looks more organized and spacious than I had thought. Did they move? I recall someone posting photos of a tiny space crammed with bolts of fabrics some time ago.

Fun to see pics in any case.

Wow. That place is a 100000000% improvement over the Worldwide House location. Look, they even have chairs!

Yes, they moved a while ago. I haven't been back since just before the move. My last lot of shirts from them were 'copies' of my Turnbull and Assers which turned out very well.

I will be in HK during Christmas and NY, do you know if they will be closing for holidays during this time?

Call them. I don't think they'll take much time off then though.

Nice post. I have always imagined them being in a cramped office or something since its in HK. I'll definitely go there when I visit the city.
