I wear contacts and was thinking about getting a pair of glasses. I won't wear them too much, but I'd like something that doesn't induce laughter should somebody see me in them like my old pair did. Any suggestions? Links to pictures of frames would be superawesome. Here's the trainwreck they've got to cover (sorry, I just woke up in that picture):

But seriously, I think that either a pair of wire frames or a pair that is slightly thicker would work well. It seems like a pair that has 'boxier' lenses would work better, as opposed to something skinny and tiny.

Lucky bastard. With your facial structure, you could wear pretty much everything. I would recommend either something rimless (good for people with good facial structures,) or something in a simple rectangular shape - not too thick rimmed. Check out www.pd-eyewear.com. I recommend the Essential style 1307, Zenith style 2210, (both titanium) or Essential style 8106 (metal.) Prada also makes nice ones (check out discounted ones on www.framesdirect.com.

I like all those, LAG, but the zenith ones are REALLY sick. I thought, though, that since I have a squarer face I need to wear rounder glasses. Just an old wive's tale?

VM, if you make them in sunglasses, you've got yourself a deal.

Your face isn't exactly squairsh, more rectangular.

Even if you do follow that tale, please don't wear those round harry potter glasses. I don't think they really compliment a person's face at all.

Make sure, that the bottom of your glasses are still sqaurish while the top is more roundish for your face. And, darker glasses would probably look good.

First of all, you are an extremely good-looking guy, extremely. I wish I looked like you. Second, I would recommend Target for glasses, in those stores that have optometrists. Frames, in general, are big fat rip-offs and virtually impossible to order on-line at a discount (one would have to see the exact frame and then duplicate it on the Net, impossible). Target has good prices for frames and a decent selection. I also recommend the "un-breakable" kind, for convenience. The nicest are the rimless, but reportedly their shortcoming is that the screws come loose frequently. Be sure to get non-glare coating.

Rectangle glasses in wire or black plastic frames. You have the face to pull off either. Black plastic rectangle frames are very cool at the moment. Wire rectangles = business, accounting.(Not a social manimal) Plastic rectangles = l am the man. A total all-rounder. l can do business, l can socialize, l am it.

How about big flamboyant metal glittery frames that state, l have arrived. You know, the type of glasses rapper Fat-boy- slim [or Elvis] would wear.

As equire wrote, you have a rectagular rather than square face. Your face is in the "oval" category, but with a strong and frankly enviable, jawline.

The 2210 is my favorite as well. It has a fashionable rectangular shape, but the slight curvature makes it come off naturally, rather than aggressively, and the monocast titanium construction is visually interesting. I personally like the dark grey shiny (as shown) for you, which will be striking and complimentary to your complexion and eye color.

I've worn glasses for most of my life, and by far the most comfortable frames I've yet found are the hingeless Silhouettes, even if their cases set new standards for cheapness and nastiness of materials. (That said, their basic case design is quite good...) While they started out just making rimless ones of titanium, now they have lines of rimmed hingeless frames in metal and plastic. Many of the frames in their SPX Art line are worth a look. Despite their low weight, they are capable of ably supporting absurdly thick lenses over long period of time; even a -6.00 or higher is not a problem, if you specify higher index lenses. I've no idea if their more interesting frames make it Stateside, though.

Other glasses that are enduring favourites of mine are the ic. berlin line. See if there's anything you like at ic-berlin.de. Again, I've no idea of availability.

My wife loves her Silhouette titaniums (the comment on the case is right on, but the newer cases on the SPXs are nicer), I on the other hand dislike them for the reason that I cannot fold the temples to hang the glasses on my shirt when hopping in and out of stores into bright sunlight. I much prefer Lindberg's titanium, eg the Strip wire (albeit 1.5 times the cost of Silhouettes).

As for the SPX line, I think the jury is still out on the longevity of the colour (according to my optician).
