My turn: too tight? just right?

I normally fit a 39R/40R in most brands, and my 40R Polo blue label and RLPL suits have had the coat waist taken in a couple of inches. Â I ordered a linen RLPL sport coat in 40R from polo.com and it just arrived. Â It's considerably smaller than expected--perhaps the Black Label slim sizing is creeping across lines. Â It doesn't feel tight or constricting, but it's on the edge of what I'd consider comfortable. Â I don't know if I want to keep this. Â Opinions? Â Anyone else notice a a shift towards smaller sizing in RL suits and coats?

Hmm, it may be so; the cashmere sweaters I recently purchased from this season seem to be smaller than those of seasons past. Indeed, they are now closer to a "˜correct' fit than they were before.

too tight : armholes. Too tight : shoulders look constricted. Butt's protruding through the double vent. Sleeves are too short.

So overall, yes, it's definitely too small.

Not very flattering, IMO, at least from the front. Looks fine from the side and back though. Something about it makes your hips look wider than your shoulders from the front.

I am in agreement with previous posters. The armholes and sholder look tight. Sleeve's are on the short side - but pretty close. Looks good from back.

You have extremely sloping shoulders that would benefit from a little "lift" and even some "rope." They also look fairly narrow, so a fraction of an inch of extension on each side would better balance your hips.

Left sleeve way too short; coat too slim in the hips; back balance is off.

This is proof again that online suit purchasing is fraught with danger, even when you think you know the sizing of a particular maker. I have a 40R blue label coat (that fits well at the shoulders and chest) at the tailor right now being taken in at the waist, yet this 40R RLPL is, by consensus, too small all around. Back it goes . . .

I agree with most of the previous posters regarding the size. You have sloped and narrow shoulders (possibly narrow shoulder bones). I would add that the ticket pocket doesn't help much in your case, because it makes the jacket look even smaller. The side vents don't lie flat vertically, probably because the jacket has too much of waist suppression. The breast pocket is too wide, so it makes your chest even smaller. Overall, you need a fuller cut jacket. I have the same body type and the same problems with the fit, therefore I will give a few points to consider in the future. You need to look for unpadded shoulder jackets, with that little "lift", "puff" or even some "rope" to broaden the shoulder. Unfortunately, most of the unpadded, unconstructed jackets I've found so far tend to be the expensive italian made. Bought, a Cantarelli sport jacket recently: unpadded shoulders, unlinned, deeply rolled three button, side vents in a rough windowpane wool fabric. Once, I had it on, I said: That's it.
