My Tailor Shirt Success

    Wow! My Tailor must have revamped their system. I am a long time satisfied customer and ordered 2 new shirts with only very slight mods to my previous sizing options.

    Ordered on May 17, 2010 and received on June 3, 2010. Two weeks from placement of order to receipt.

    Wow, nice. I wonder if this is, in part, due to the economy and the increasing competition in this market space? I am also a long term, satisfied customer of theirs. I also just placed a trial shirt order with Astor and Black, even given some of the bad press they got here a few years ago.

    I had the same situation. Went to see M. Kenny on his tour trip DC to make some minor tweaks to a shirt sizing at the end of April. Received three shirts before the end of May. Very impressed with the turnaround speed. M Kenney had told me 6-8 weeks. The shirts arrived in about 4.

    I, too, got my latest batch of shirts from MyTailor just 4 weeks after ordering from M Kenny, which is almost half the time I normally wait.

    Very interesting. I'm still getting the long-ass lead times on my orders, and I'd say that roughly 60% of my orders run the risk of getting a "Sorry, but your fabric is out of stock; please try again" email about a month after I place the order. I'd been growing extremely frustrated with their ordering process, to the point where I was about to start trying other MTM makers.

    Your experience flies in the face of everything I have experienced with MyTailor in the past and in the fairly recent present. But if you say they're changing, maybe it's worth giving them a second chance (really, more like a fifth or sixth chance for me).

    how did u guys get measurements? did you go to a local tailor to get measured or did you trust a friend or measure your best fitting shirt?

    I didn't get good results with MyTailor.com until I started meeting with their rep, M Kenny, in person. He does all the measuring, and he comes to the DC area every 3-4 months.

    Are you placing all your orders online? I've never had that happen, and so I'm wondering if it's because I'm selecting from M Kenny's fabric swatches, which are perhaps more likely to be stock than what's on the website.

    I went to meet M Kenny on his normal tour to get measurements. I also picked four Thomas Mason silverline fabrics on the first meeting, but asked that only one be delivered for fit confirmation. I got it about 4 weeks later. He suggested 6-8 weeks, but I figured that it came quicker because it was a test shirt. Joe Hemrajani e-mailed me to contact him if there were any fit problems or I could meet with M Kenny the next time he was in town. I was able to wear and wash the shirt about 4 times before M Kenny returned to DC. I went back for fit confirmation and to finalize the other three shirts. The fit from his original measurements was nearly spot on. I was looking for a fitted, but not tight look, with higher and narrower armholes. I didn't want all the excess material on the back, like w/ BB. I also was looking for some design details that were easily within their range of options. No placket. No pocket. True split yoke (you have to ask specifically). Thicker MOP buttons. Two button cuffs. English spread collar but not cutaway. We only had to make the chest 1/2 inch larger - it pulled a little (not significant enough for anyone but me to notice) at the button and make the arm holes a little narrower - they are already much narrower than OTR shirts. The three remaining shirts came back in 4 weeks. After a few washes they will be spot on, I'm sure. I got a mail brochure about M Kenny's next trips to DC in the mail yesterday. I'll be heading back in the fall to order 8 shirts and get the 9th free. That's a pretty good deal. I'll probably mix up the styles a bit, by adding a placket to some of the less formal fabrics, but I'll stick with TM Silver for days I wear a sportjacket with no tie to add a visible vetical line. All, in all, the shirts are now my best wardrobe feature, exceeding my HF suits.

    That's probably what's going on. I'm doing my ordering online, and that's been really hit or miss in terms of fabric availability. Even Joe Hemrajani himself admitted to me in a recent email exchange that he really needs to get better about reflecting actual stock on the website. My guess is that they don't physically stock most of their fabrics (except for the very popular ones), but rather, that they order them as needed when customer orders come in. Sometimes those fabrics are no longer available from their suppliers at that time. I understand why they're doing business this way, but an unfortunate side effect is that they're unintentionally misleading their customers by presenting a much wider selection of fabrics than is actually available. This is the equivalent of my putting a suit up for sale in B&S, then receiving a payment from somebody, then going out and trying to find the suit to fulfill the order. It's not totally honest business. Joe says they're going to revise how they list fabrics. Meaning, I suppose, that the aforementioned stocking process is not going to change anytime soon. Instead, Joe is going to try to get better about only putting up on his site the fabrics he is extremely sure he can source per order. With slightly better web design, he's be able to list fabrics in their actual quantities as available per his suppliers' stock. But I digress.

    I'm less amazed by the shirt story, and more amazed that pkincy has started a thread.

    We all feared that you were dead. I am glad it is not true, although if it it is true, that you have found faithful online representation.

    I live in Toronto and would like to take advantage of this website. I tried to google him but couldn't find any information.

    I have ordered 15 shirts from Mytailor (Joe Hemranjani) over the last year and I have been extremely pleased with all the results. My first set needed some small tweaks but now you would have to do something very dramatic (or they would really have to drop the ball) to get me to switch. Very worthwhile to take the time and really work with them--to help them help you, as the expression goes.

    You can also get on their mailing list and receive notices in the mail. They arrive about two weeks in advance of his visit, which is nice because it gives one time to create a wish list.
