I've got a pair of RL made in the USA beef roll pennys that I love and have been wearing without pain for a year. Today I dropped one with a tree in it on my foot and my toe really hurts. Any ideas on why these shoes would start hurting my feet after all this time?

It is very likely that gemming is responsible for the pain you now suffer.
