My own "this week's shoe damage" thread.

So, I had a particularly busy shoe week this week (actually, probably the past two weeks or so). Thought I'd post a picture for you all. I basically went crazy on the Charles Tyrwhitt 50% off code and purchased two pairs of the Loake Twynings in brown and black and I purchased a pair of the Loake Chelsea boots in brown:

Here is my updated collection with the new shoes. The back row is the Loake Twyning in brown, a J&M split toe, and the Twyning in black. The middle row is Allen Edmonds Concord in chestnut, Allen Edmonds Sanford, and Allen Edmonds Concord in black. The front row is the Loake Chelseas.

What suggestions would you guys make for future shoe purchases?

love the concords of course, i think you are the one who showed us how to put velcro underneath on the other forum?

sanfords have always got the nice look.
didnt know the brown loakes would looks so good as well.

not sure if you like loafers, but i'd throw in a penny loafer in sometime in the future.
maybe a wingtip as well but looks like you got alot of semis in there to fill out the brogued shoe area.

maybe a sleek italian made plain toe? maybe by santoni classic, borgioli or a tramezza.

you can get a AE Westgate in brandy, something i am getting soon, i hope.

I'm not a big fan of the penny loafer per se, but I have had my eye on a Ferragamo Tramezza loafer on ebay. Here's a pic:

I also think that I might need just some plain toe shoes in black and brown.

The guy has some 11EE for sale right now, but those might be big for me. I wear a size 10.5EEE in AE (though, the Concords in the pictures above are size 11E and are only slightly long, but a little too tight on my right foot. However, I stretched the right shoe so now it fits a lot better). For example, I've tried on AE Park Avenues in 10.5EEE and they fit perfectly. The Loakes are UK 10G and fit perfectly. I'm thinking that I would need at least a 10.5EE in the Tramezzas, but an 11EE might be fine too. Not sure I want to risk it because the seller does not do exchanges so if the 11 EE are too big I might be stuck.

Does anybody know how Tramezzas run in sizing? Or, does anybody know of a store that sells these shoes where I might be able to try them on?

i used to sell those exact bit loafers in tramezza. they are called fervido.
very nicely constructed tramezza, solid all around, but i did not dig the bit styling, not the typical gancini bit ferragamo usuallly uses.
however, the sizing in ferragamo runs a little small, i wear usually 10D in US but in ferragamo i wear a 10.5 D.

so you're saying that an 11 would probably fit me then? I normally wear a US 10.5 EEE, so if these run small and 11EE should fit. Hmm, maybe I'll go for it.

EDIT: Just bought them. I'll report back on the fit and quality when I get them.

hold on. i only know about the D widths , i havent any experience with their wide widths.
best thing to do is to ask the seller the measurements lengthwise and more preferably the width at widest in inches.

All nice, I like the chelsea boots alot. Let me know how they work.
I'd suggest some spectators. Brown and white or linen. they are a fun shoe. i have several pairs.

I'm also eyeing suede options.

Spectators would be fun. When I was in high school I wore Doc Marten spectators to school every day and I thought I was the coolest guy around (though, I usually wore them with khakis or cargo pants). It might be fun to figure out a way for me to pull off wearing them now that I'm all grown up.

As for chukkas, I seem to have some kind of aversion to wearing them. Maybe it's because I always thought that any boots I wear should be ass-kicking boots. The Loake Chelsea boots look sufficiently ass-kicking for me to wear them, but for some reason, chukkas don't look good to me. Maybe as my style evolves that will change, but I tend to be a stickler for my ways (though, I have broken down in certain areas in the past - for example, until recently I never wore french cuff shirts).

It looks, feels, and smells exactly like plastic; I believe one SF member forewarned potential buyers in the "Chelsea Boot" post; needless to say, I did not heed their warning. The brown ones look to be of much better quality and I regret not buying them. What are your opinions on them?

Sounds the same as my CT chukka boots. Go for the brown/calf leather ones.

The brown Chelseas seem pretty good to my untrained and inexperienced eye. I don't really know how to judge leather that well, but they look, feel, and smell like leather. It definitely doesn't look like the leather on Cole Haans looks. As for the Tyrwhitt brogue captoes, the leather on those is pretty good, but those are the more expensive "Calf Leather" on the Tyrwhitt site, so I assume that those are a better quality leather. I wish I knew how to judge leather better so that I could be more helpful.

I see, thanks for the info. Unfortunately, the leather on the black ones is so bad that even to the untrained eye they are horrible. I am sure Mr. Haan himself would be appalled...
