I have a pair of black captoes, chestnut brown brogued captoes, and burgundy loafers (a gift that I haven't really figured out how to wear yet). I'm feeling stagnant and I'm not sure where to go next, something in a darker brown shade? Suede? Monks? Longwings? Can anyone please give me some ideas?

Not sure what brands these are but perhaps a pair of derby. Something like EG Kingsway two eyelet derby in dark oak.

My 2 cents of course.

AE and the loafers are Bass. Edit: It's worth noting that I'm 20, so getting "the perfect ____ that will last you your entire life" doesn't really apply to me. I'd rather build up a little variety.

You live in Chicago. You should pick up some good dress boots. Look at the C&J Coniston for inspiration. Also consider a chelsea boot, maybe in a dark brown suede, which looks great dressed up or dressed down. Or a chukka. ideas If you are going to buy cheap boots, I would buy suede before any low-priced leather boots. Cheap suede wears better than cheap leather, especially on shoes that will be put to hard use. Dress boots are versatile & practical & cool & you need them if you live somewhere that has lots of snow and ice through the winter.

I am looking for a chukka myself next (if I can hold off on another pair of C&J first), so good rec.

I think a chukka or dress boot would be a nice addition.
