@ the Metropolitan Museum of Art Great examples of 1930s portraiture and wonderful style from a lost era. [IMG]

I like Helmut Newton, Guy Bourdin, Diane Arbus, and Nan Goldin.

However August Sander captured Imperial, and Weimar Germany quite well.

Labelking, what do you think of ellen von unwerth, the female but heir apparent to helmut newton?

sheila metzner is underrated along with duane michals, ross bleckner and kurt markus

I find her work to bear resemblances to Newton's however it is less deprave, and dark. There is almost a sense of whimsy one could say with a play on the brothel settings, etc.

It seems to me that the apparent mood of Newton cannot be equalled considering his past which translates into his work of sado-masochism, decadence, and such. Rather reminiscent of Liliana Cavani's "The Night Porter."

Her work just doesn't to have that edge.
