Hi all,

I ordered my first suit online and when it came i realised it was a really dark shade of Navy. I plan to wear the suit for business and am wondering if it is too much like a black suit and hence might be too formal/inappropriate?

Here is a pic of me in the suit. Its probably a shade or 2 darker than what u see in the pic.

Btw, if it matters, im a tan asian with black hair.

Thanks!

Also, any recommendations for patterned ties to go along with it? I already have a solid burgundy and a solid navy tie so i am looking for some patterned ones.

I was thinking maybe something like

Suit color looks fine in photo, and solid navy is about as safe as safe gets.

For tie color, middle blues are best avoided with navy - if you want to play with blues on a blue suit, I tend to like light blues, or having the tie darker than the suit... which doesn't sound possible here.

2.5 inch ties are pretty narrow - the conventional wisdom here is a mix of 3.25 inch aka 8cm ties and grousing that 3.5 inch aka 9 cm ties are hard to come by.

I would go into more color with the ties (reds, pink, yellow, even some light to mid greys and browns can work) against the dark backdrop of this suit. I probably keep repeating myself in many threads here, but I‘m great fan of pocket squares as they help balance out bolder colors in an outfit (like in a tie or „happy socks“) if you pick them up again even subtly in the pocket square.

Suit looks fine.

Navy suit...white shirt? Just buy ties that you like. Don't necessarily look to "coordinate" it with that outfit. Just about anything goes.

Would it be much of a hassle to return it before you'd need to wear a suit in navy? Since you mention it, I must agree that it is quite a darker shade of navy, and there are other shades that you'd find more agreeable.

Color looks great. If you really want to "pull the blue" do as one poster suggested and pair with a much lighter blue tie. Something like this comes to mind...

When you are more comfortable with the shade of the suit you can wear it with just about any other color tie out there...great color for a first suit really. Well done.

Thanks everyone for your input! Sorry for not replying as I've been swamped with work. Been using the suit alot and I've grown to really love the colour.
Im probably gonna get a charcoal grey suit next as im using this one suit almost 2 to 3 times a week and im worried it might be overused.

Thanks for the feedback guys, seems like a nice respectful community here.

Great to hear. Charcoal is a great choice for suit #2.

If you are wearing suits 8-14 times a month a 3-suit rotation would be a great starting goal. Also, consider a second set of pants with these suits if possible.
