My I wear a midnight blue suit to the office and interviews

Already have suits in charcoal gray and jet black. Unfortunately I am in a VERY conservative field (think banking/law) so I know that black is no good for these purposes. Still, I do look best in dark colors so I was thinking midnight blue might be a nice addition. Acceptable given my field?

Sure, provided the cut is decent. Although It wouldn't be my choice. Have you thought of a deep shade of navy?

Midnight blue is essentially black, it just looks richer and deeper. Only under very bright light does it appear blue. It's like black that isn't as flat. If you wouldn't wear a black suit to work then I don't think a midnight blue suit would work either. I find that midnight blue is best worn for an evening out.

Yes, but few places seem to sell such a shade. Besides, I have difficulty figuring out where the line between "deep" navy and midnight blue is.

Alternatively, I've thought about navy with pinstripes (NOT chalkstripes) but I'm over 6 foot so probably too tall for that, no?

midnight blue isn't really a "suit" color, it's more of a tux color. that is why people would advise you against it.

imo do what you want i doubt anyone will notice.

Midnight Blue is not an appropriate business colour. Choose navy, or stick with the charcoal.

Are you worried that pinstripes may make you appear too tall? I'm 6'3 and I have no problem rocking pinstripes or chalkstripes (I'm pretty broad shouldered/chested though I suppose)

That being said, I would go with a plain navy suit before I did pinstripes.

+1. 6' isn't even that tall. I think you need to be 6'5+ before you need to start worrying about "too tall for that" considerations.

I kind of feel that if you are a man, especially in business, you never have to make, "am I too tall for that?" considerations.

I would suggest your dark grey suit would be fine for interview, as would a dark blue/navy if you wish to purchase one.

Midnight blue may as well be black, and it is not considered a typical suit colour - I usually see it on one button blazers or tux's. It is a wonderful looking colour, but is considered dressy like the jet black.

For interview, I usually flick a coin on wearing a medium grey suit or a medium blue.

IMO, a midnight blue suit is pretty restricted to "going out at night for dinner+drinks."
