My chest measures 38" so why don't 38R suits fit me right?

I have large pectoral, latissimus dorsi and trapezius muscles but I am slim around the lower torso. My waist measures 30" and my chest is exactly 38" but when I try on 38 suits there is a lot of room around the stomach area where the buttons are (I am 30.25" at the belly button level and 33" at my first pair of abs.) Nevertheless the shoulders are snug but there is a lot of spare room when I button up. Can I buy size 38 suits and then have them altered so that when I button them up they are snug around my lower torso?

You know there are other sizes you can try on, right?

There are also S and L lengths for each size. Just find one that fits, you don't have to stick to 38.

FYI, these sizes aren't that standardized; shoulder lengths for 38 can range from 17"-19".

You can get the jacket tailored. Or, try a different slimmer cut from another brand.

You need to have your arms down for accurate chest measurements.

the torso is one of the easiest things to alter on a jacket. if the jacket fits great in the shoulders and chest, a competent tailor can fix the rest.
