Thanks very much to everyone who helped me with advice over the last few weeks on my first nice pair of shoes! Maybe in a year or two I can convince my wife I need a pair of Aldens, then maybe John Lobb. ;-)

From AE to Alden to Lobb?

Baby steps, man, baby steps!!!

Go to C&J (benchgrade or handgrade) then hit the EG sale in June....you have to win the wife over. The Jump from alden at $400 to Lobb at $1500 is serious sticker shock.

Makes you wonder why AE stopped offering such classic shoes or is it reinforces the 'wonderment'. Beautiful shoes!

It is, frankly, amazing that folks still get on this board and rail about AE being too blobby. If the OP had not posted the name of the shoe, just the pics (minus the trees) and claimed they were his new EGs, I am almost certain that 80% of us would have believed him. Now, I am not saying they are of equal quality (that would be absurd). Certainly EG's soles are many steps above and the workmanship and materials are of a higher quality (that is why they are 3x the cost). But, from looks alone, those are pretty fantastic shoes.

Nice shoes, wear them in good health.I'd probably skip the Aldens and go to next level though, unless you want some cordovan shoes.

I own this same pair in dark brown. They are, in fact, quite blobby in real life.

Nice! These are the nicest pair of AEs I have seen in a while. I would love to see the chestnut color.

but I don't think they would be confused with Edward green, ever...

For those that know:
Does the Strand in the 5 last fit essentially the same way as the Park Avenue or do the two shoes fit differently?
