I've been listening non-stop to the band that VersaceMan recommended: Tapes n' Tapes. Great album.

I'm going to go see them when they play in Tokyo in December.

Other than that:

Robert Pollard
Jazz Butcher- I'd forgotten about this band until last week but they were one of my faves years ago.
The Thrills
Jim Bryson- excellent canadian singer/songwriter

Man, what happened with the thrills? After "so much" I thought they'd get huge...then the second album just fizzled. "So Much" is still one of my favorite albums.

Really a fun band to see live but that 3rd album's been in the works for a while now. "Irish Keep Gatecrashing" is one of my favorite vids. Here it is if you haven't seen it yet:

Lately I have been listening to Jpop, Jrock, Psychobilly, Punk, Visual Kei, Trance, Jungle, and some random clasical and stuff:
artists I have been listening to lately(current can be seen at last.fm):

Mika Nakashima, Amazing voice and range of musical Talent
Hyde/ L Arc en Ciel: good mix of fast and slow rock
Gackt: again good mix of fast and slow as well as having a qutie versatile voice
Tiger Army
Nekromantix
Gazette
D'espairsRay
Sex Machine Gun
DJ Doboy: Trancequility Mixes (my fav Trance DJ)
Diesel Boy
The Strokes "Is This It" Their best album by far, has much more an unpolished dirty sound to it, I like that.
Eclectic Approach: Kinda Funky Rock
Shigeru Umebayashi (anyone who has seen a WKW Film has probably heard this composer)
I usually throw in a bit of Classic Punk to round things out

I like Room on Fire better, but only because What Ever Happened, Reptilia and 12:51 are such fantastic songs. Take away them away, and Is This It is superior.

As for the Thrills... I was so disapointed with their first album. I can tolerate bad vocals... but damn, not non-stop falsetto singing. Somebody hand that man some testicles, a fifth of whiskey and a pack of unfiltered smokes. I didn't even bother trying to listen to Let's Bottle Bohemia... any good?

More of the same, Bandwagonesque, but I thought the lyrics lacked any substance and were laughable at times. I.E. "Is this what they call sex? Is this what they call sex on a Saturday night?" Blah.

I think I like the song writing on "Is This It" better than "Room" but the solo writing on "Room" is by far better. "I Can't Win" and the other songs previously mentioned are great examples.

Speaking of the strokes, has anyone checked out the new album Albert put out?
