Mum, Her Boyfriend & Myself - How should the rent be split?

Ok, here's the scenario. I live with my mum and her boyfriend, we all live under the same roof, I am 20 years old, unemployed and not receiving rent assistance from welfare (centrelink its called here) because I live under a parent.

Should the rent be split this way...

1/3 Mum's Boyfriend
1/3 Mum
1/3 Me

Or this way..

1/2 Mum's Boyfriend
1/2 Mum & Me

It is currently set out in the first way, but after much contemplation I think the second way is more correct. Legally I cannot support myself under a parent and I am not considered an independant, so I don't see why I should have to pay as one. Also, the way it is right now, my mum is paying twice as much as her boyfriend because I cannot support myself.

If I do find a job soon and am financially independant then I can understand the first way, but expecting me to pay rent when I can't afford it and therefore making my mum pay twice as much as she normally does doesn't seem fair to me.

So, for anyone that cares to share their $0.02, it'd be greatly appreciated, I'd like to know what people think about my situation and whether I am right or wrong in my theory.

Thanks guys.

i think 1/3rd each... cause if your mum's bf was not around you and your mum would have still split the rent half and half. so, with the three of you around, it needs to be split again...

Believe me I'm trying, unemployment is at an all time high right now thanks to the recession and every position I apply for has been drowned with applications. I must've applied for at least 100 vacancies in the past few weeks alone, but its hard when your young and inexperienced with no credentials. Currently almost everyone has already hired for the new year - at least as far as the employers I'm going for are concerned. If you've got any advice or tips I'd be happy to hear it, but thats not the reason I made this thread.

One very important piece of advice: If the job application asks for an email address, do not use [email protected].

The last thing you need is for anyone you know to find out what your screenname is.

I think the second way is better... Ideally, the boyfriend should pay 100%. If he marries your mom, and becomes your stepdad, then he'll pay everything, right?

I think you can't find a job because they Google-bombed your real name at Superfuture.

Who has their name on the lease?
That person decides how the rent will be split.
If you don't like it gtfo.

My mum is happy to pay for me, the question is more a matter of ethics than anything, I don't feel comfortable with her paying so much. All 3 of our names are on the lease, I'm not sure whether this is right or wrong.
