I've really wanted to try it for a while, especially now that it's cold. I can't get any around here, so I'll have to make it. But stoves and I don't get along very well. Can anyone offer any help?

I would very much appreciate it. I've researched it a bit and it doesn't seem too hard, but I can never about these things.

I think these are a pretty good way to go. Cinnamon, cloves, star anise maybe. It's just easier--and probably cheaper--to buy it premixed. Keep that heat very low. And don't forget that it's on.
Edit - mulled wine is like the sangria of winter.

"Mulled wine! Heavy on the cinnamon and light on the cloves. Off with you, me lad, and be lively!"

my buddy ordered this at a bar last weekend because he knows i love a good "it's a wonderful life" reference. surprisingly(!), the bartender didn't know what the hell we were talking about.

Nice reference. It's funny, but a movie reference actually sparked this thread. In a favorite movie of mine, a guy ladles himself a glass of mulled wine and then says something to the effect of, "This goes down like a seraph in red velvet tights." Who wouldn't want to drink something like that?
